Hi,

Researching Maternal Great-grandparents:  William Moynihan & Bridget Greeley:

  • William Moynihan, b. 1863 to Humphrey Moynihan & Ellen (Fitzgerald) and baptized Drishane Parish, Millstreet and Cullen, County Cork
  • Bridget Greeley, b. about 1860 in Ireland, daughter of John Burke of County Cork (possibly of Macroney Parish?) and Bridget (Burke).
  • They may have married 27 Aug. 1859 in Cloyne, Cork (Greeley = Kinealy?)
  • Married in 1884 lived  in Brockton, MA

Any input is welcome.

    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

Is it possible that Ellen was also a Margaret? Found the 1858 marriage below. Maybe it was a different couple but Humphrey is unusual. I did find the following sibling baptismal record in Millstreet: Mary 11/25/1858 (three months after the marriage) Daniel 7/8/1860 Ellen 2/17/1862  (died young?) Ellen 2/5/1865 Johanna 4/28/1867

I'm drawing a blank on the other side. Just to confirm--Bridget Greeley daughter of John Greeley and Bridget Burke? The RC parish may be Macroom?

  • Hi Roger,

Thank you so much for taking the time to help. Regarding Humphrey and Ellen/Margaret, this is very interesting. The only record I have at present is of the son William's marriage in US, where he lists father as Humphrey and mother as Ellen..however, the dates are right, so I think it needs more investigation. Where did you find the records?

Regarding Bridget Greely, father was John Greely and mother Bridget. I have found a John Greely, b. 1834, who emigrated to US in 1866 and lists his birthplace as County Cork. The following info in Tithe Appt. book may be relevant to John's father(?):

Re: Bridget Greely's mother, I do not have a last name yet. A Bridget Burke married a John Kenealy in Cork in Aug. 27, 1859, but the difference between Greely and Kenealy may be too great.

Thank you so much for your kind attention. I really appreciate it. -JoAnne

  • JoAnne:

www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish governement site which has Co. Kerry church records and part of the church records for Co. Cork (parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross). I found the records on that site.

Regarding the Tithe record, I only saw a record for a John Greehy rather than Greely.
