My maternal great-grandfather, William Murphy (& his family), was from the Dromtarriff area. He was born in 1832 and emigrated to the US in 1861. He married Catherine Sheehan in 1860 having 11 children before arriving in Boston in Oct 1881. His father's name was Daniel. NFI. I am looking to locate any remaining relatives.

  • Hello, I suspect there is some connection between our two families but it isn't obvious to me at the moment.  A William Hickey witnessed the marriage of my 4th great grandparents, Denis and Mary Murphy Hickey in Keale, Dromtarriff in 1835.  Obviously this isn't the William Murphy you are seeking information on!  Also, my 3rd great grandparents, William Hickey and Ellen Horrigan lived in Wales and they had 3 Murpheys as boarders, Edward, Peter and John (born in Ireland around 1830-40), but I haven't figured out who they were.  My Hickeys eventually immigrated to New Haven, CT

  • Thanks for your reply. Yes, maybe but its hard to say since all 11 chidlren of William & Catherine stayed around the Boston area when they arrived in the 1880's except one who went to Nova Scotia, James (Jimmy Murphy) who died in 1931. f you would like, take a look at the tree I'm still plugging away on. You can find it on ancestry.com under "Hurley-Murphy Family Tree".

  • I have to confess that, though I have been on ancestry for several years, I haven't figured out how to search by a tree name? I did try searching by putting in William Murphy and some details but didn't see your tree. My email is sehaines42@gmail.com.  But I agree that I don't see an obvious connection, beyond the parish.
