This year’s theme focuses on the role of oral history in relation to 'people and place'.
When you think about place you think about your parish and townland and these are vital links to the past, providing information about where our ancestors lived, what work they did and where they went to school.
The objective of the two-day event is to bring together individual oral history collectors, local community groups, curators, archivists, academics and policy practitioners to encourage lively discussion across the broad spectrum of oral history.
Workshops
We invite attendees to participate in discussion-based workshops on the following topics:
• Interviewing Basics
• The Cork Folklore Project - Twenty Years of Learning
• Why Place Matters in Oral History
• Music and Local Traditions
Descriptions of the individual workshops are available on the website. Please indicate which workshop(s) you are interested in attending when you register.
Project showcases
We would like to hear about past and on-going oral history projects in Ireland. If you - as an individual or group - have a project that you would like to showcase, consider taking part in our practitioner panels, where presenters have 10 minutes to discuss an aspect of their work and the joys and challenges of collecting or using oral histories.
Posters
Display a poster about your work in the atrium during the event.
Panel presentations
Individual presentations (15 minutes each) are invited on topics that include, but are not limited to:
• Oral history and geography
• Recording narratives of collective or public memory of a place or time
• Examining the changing environment and ecology of place
• Oral histories of specific local places (graveyards, hospitals, schools, etc.)
• Changing land usage practices (agriculture, land usage, hunting, fishing, etc.)
• Local folklore, music and song
• Memories of significant local people, places and events
• Migration and displacement
• Film, broadcast and multimedia uses of oral history

Registration
The event is FREE but attendees must register at www.oralhistorynetworkireland.ie/2016-conference by 27th September 2016. If you would like to attend the conference dinner on Friday 7 Oct. at 7:30pm, the cost is €25 per person.
