(Family letters and gravestones.) unfortunately there is no indication of wether they were urban or rural. Because the "Perish of Fermoy" is mentioned in Boston Pilot Advertisements I have come here. It is my intention to come to Ireland in the Spring of 2014 for the O'Brien Clan Gathering. I plan to hike the E8 from Cork East through Fermoy on the way to Clontarf.I would very much like to meet any living cousins in the Fermoy area on my way east. Hi Mark,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried searching in Griffith?s Valuation for John2? this was a property Valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland 1848-1864. Although it doesn?t give any genealogical information it can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. You can search this here:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Also, you could try looking in civil records for information on John2. Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

Have you tried looking in the 1901/1911 census records to see if there were any possible family still living in the area at the time?

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

I am delighted to hear that you are planning a visit next year. Please keep in contact with us and hopefully we may have a volunteer organised in the area by the time of your trip who may be able to assist you.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas are not yet organised.
Kind regards,
