I am searching for James David Barry born 1774 in Cork (Fermoy). He arrived in the USA in the 1790s. He was the nephew and adopted by James Barry (b. 1755 in Buttervant, Fermoy and d. 1808 in New York) and Joanna Gould (b. Watergrasshill and died at Blackrock in 1811). James Barry and Joanna Gould were married in Lisbon, Portugal in 1782. They were in the shipping business and became a prominent family in Washington DC. In addition to adopting their nephew, James David Barry, James and Joanna had two daughters, Ann and Mary.

Unfortunately, Catholic records for Fermoy parish only start in 1827:
Sometimes you may be lucky and find records in neighbouring parishes if they have an earlier start date. It may be an idea to contact Mallow Heritage Centre to see if they can offer any advice. Here is their email:mallowheritagecentre@gmail.com Please note however that a fee may apply.
