Glanworth connection: Looking for connection/descendants of William Myers (b. abt 1819) and wife, Mary Burke (b. 1821).
Their children: Katherine (b. 1850), Mary (b. 1855), Patrick (b. 1863), William (b. 1865) but specifically, my great grandfather, John (b. 1849). All (I think) immigrated to and settled in the Minneapolis, Minnesota  (1860-1870)  area and lived there. What was William Myers occupation? Was he from Glanforth, was Mary? Any additional info is most welcome!

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Have you tried looking into thier emigration? Sometimes more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. If you can find their immigration records you may be lucky and find inforamtion on place of origin and William's Occupation. For Immigration information in the US check the National Archives at the following address:

    http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

Another good website for general information on US immigration records is: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/US-immigration-records.html

You could use the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century to try to tie them to the Glanworth area. There are two:

The earlier records are The Tithe Applotment Books which were compiled between 1823-1838. If you know either Mary or Williams' parents names you could search for them in this. You can search this here:

    http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

The second is Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) You can search this here:

Another good search website is https://familysearch.org/   This is a huge database of genealogical records complied by the Church of the Latter Day Saints.

  • Paulius is my cousin. Our great-grandfather's parents were Michael Myers and Margaret (Peggy) Webb.

We know that she lived in Doneraile, Co. Cork after he died.

  • I have some details on William Myers who married Mary Burke. They were married in Kildorrery on the 18th February 1842 and the following children were baptised in Kildorrery:-

    Mary 30th December 1842

    John 4th March 1845

    Margaret 22nd January 1848

    Ellen 17th November 1854

    Patrick 15th March 1857

    William 8th September 1861

I am trying to trace all the Myers in and around Kildorrery as my g.g grandmother was a Myers.
