Hi, I had my DNA tested with Ancestry (results also on GEDMatch anf Family Tree DNA) and wonder if anyone in Glanworth has been tested and is using this as a way to help cousins from outside Ireland. My maternal grandmother was Irish, her parents from County Cork. Surnames Stackpole (3 brothers, Michael, William And John) and Patrick Nelligan. I understand there were Stackpoles in the 1901 census and also in Tithe Aplotment books. I'm hoping some descendants or cousins of the brothers are still in Ireland. My ancestor left before 1829, settled in Bytown/Ottawa, Canada. They are RC. I would like to find possible links to Ireland. In 2013 I asked for help with Michael Stackpole and Mary Haw, but understand the RC records don't go back far enough to find a marriage record. Now I'm hoping DNA is the ket. Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Michele Krogh

Dear Michele
DNA testing is quite a new phenomenon for most here, though some involved in genealogy have been using it for a little while now. I am unaware of anyone in Glanworth who is involved but certainly feel free to add some further details here if you have it about your Stackpole and Nelligan ancestors.
This link gives a good indication of the spread of the names in the mid-19th Century:

Thank you for your response. I'll keep checking back from time to time. Maybe DNA testing will become more affordable in time and others will become interested. In N America there are so many of us looking to find our roots in Europe. I have many cousin matches and we are searching for the same ancestors.
