Hello everyone - I've been able to see Church records for Inchigeelagh back to 1816. Does anyone know if records prior to that date exist and, if so, where? There's a bit of conflicting information out there, with Archives/National Library indicating that 1816 is when the records begin, but another site (Corkgen perhaps?) mentioning records going back to 1799. I'm looking for birth records from 1790-1802 specifically. Many thanks - Debbie

  • Debbie:

    Welcome back!

My reference book (by Brian Mitchell) shows 1816. I would check with Corkgen for their source.

  • Hello! yes, Roger, I'm sure you are right - when I took a second look, it seems that the dates are swapped with Kilmurry, where records actually do go back to 1780s. After my original post, I came across the Diocese website, which lists each of the parishes with information as to which records are available and how to search .... here's the link in case anyone is interested

corkandross.org/parishes.jsp?parishID=66  ... it took me a while to realize that Inchigeelagh/Iveleary is listed in Irish as Uibh Laoire :)   So - thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it means I'm 'stuck', and will go back to archives and government records. Happy New Year! Debbie
