Kathy, Are you sure of the 1817 and 1850 dates?  It would be pretty unusual for a couple to have a child 33 years after marrying. So just checking.

I know. These dates have always bothered me. Daniel lists Jeremiah and Ellen as his parents on his marriage record. They are also listed on his death record (his eldest son supplies the information). I have the actual record from the church but not in front of me. I want to say that Ellen was only about 15 at the time of the wedding. I believe Daniel must have been one of her last children.

Someone on FamilySearch lists nine children for this couple starting in 1817 but I have not been able to verify this information.

Here’s an 1829 marriage record for a Mary McCarthy in  Inchigeelagh. One of the witnesses was Jeremiah McCarthy.

Here's a Daniel with mother Ellen Hurley but father Daniel, not Jeremiah...

Here's an 1829 marriage for a Jeremiah McCarthy and an Ellen Hurley....Names were common...it might just be a couple by the same name.
