Philip and Maryanne are parents of my grandfather Denis.
I'm interested in any information about the Riordan family and the records seem to show that when she was christened the family was in a different parish in Cork.
The Harding's prior to Philip seem to have been living in Cork but I have little information beyond Philip. it seems his father might have been Philip Harding dob c. 1810, and married one Mary Anderson b1821, Nov. 30. 1847.
I'm a long way from finishing my research and am very new to the whole process. My mother's family were Mahoney and am having even more problems ironing them out.
Anything you can add would be greatly appreciated.
Richard Harding, grandson of Denis

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Can you clarify the first part of your message? Who are the parents of Mary Anne Riordan? If Michael Riordan and Narry Crean who is Denis Riordan? Also if Mary Anne was born around 1844 why was she baptized in 1849? Let me know and I will try to find more details.

Thanks for you quick attention to this request.
Sorry for the confusion.
I have Denis Riordan as son of Michael Riordan and Narry Crean and father of Maryanne. I can't explain the date of baptism - I realise it is unrealistic. I hope to do better with updating the Philip Harding side of things as I have some newer sources to investigate.
I appreciate your attention to these items. Hope you weekend is warm and sunny.
Dick.

The key piece of information would be the name of Mary Anne's mother. Mary Riordan is a very common name and even with a father Denis, you still get a lot of possibilities. The RC churches in Co. Cork are split into two diocese: Cork and Ross and the other is Cloyne. Cork and Ross records are on a free Irishgovernment site www.irishgenealogy.ie The Cloyne records are on Roots Ireland which is a subscription site.
I searched on www.irishgenealogy.ie from 1840-1847 and located about ten baptismal records for Mary Riordan with father Denis. Hopefully this link works. If it does not, just go to the site and do a search.

Thank you Roger, the information is very helpful. I've been at a loss about finding good sources. Since I am retired, i'm always looking for sites that are free. Am busy now with the Riordan family but will soon be looking for Philip Harding. I know he was located in the the Cork South area and lived on Green Street. Most of that information appears to be accurate, including the emigration information I have re the children who came to America. I want to find more information about Philip, 1810 to I believe, 1873. Do I post a new request here or continue working with you? I'm not sure what the process is. For now, both sides of the family seem to have been in Cork city for some time. I'd love to find out more about where they lived and where they came from. I'm suspecting the family originated in England, given the surname Harding, but that is a whole other story.
I truly appreciate your time and efforts. Please let me know how to proceed. Many thanks, Dick H.

A new post would be better since more "eyes" will see the message. There are about seven of us who try to respond to the messages on the main message board. We are currently getting inundated with messages related to a very nice PR piece that our HQ folks put out http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/donegal/clondavaddog-donegal/news/stan…
All the church records for Cork city should be on the site I gave you. The Cork South parish (St. Finbarrs) has records back to the 1700s. My wife and I visited that church back in September 2014. Her father's family were all baptized in that church.

Thanks again. The Riordan's are still a tangled bit for me but I keep at it.
Discovered today, from a microfilm record of St. Finbarr's that Mary Anne and Philip Harding were 3rd cousins, and the pastor added an explanation in the record that this circumstance was not an impediment to the marriage taking place,[May 1, 1864] (that's the best I could make of it from my old Latin studies.)
No luck yet with Philip Harding's father and mother but I will post that in the next few days, hopefully under the correct heading. I would really like to make progress back to the 18th century if records are available.
Will be out of town much of the next 2 days but will post my request as soon as I can.
Best regards,
Dick.
