JAMES McCARTHY Born around 1853 SON OF DANIEL AND CATHERINE?
I have been researching my family tree for over a year now and have hit a dead end. Any information would be great.
My great great grandfather was James McCarthy, possibly from Ballinadee, Cork. His first wife was Maria Montgomery. Their first child Hugh McCarthy was born in London in 1871.
They then moved to Belfast and had two further children Daniel McCarthy and Maria, born in 1872 and 1875.
James remarried my great great grandmother Mary Anne Early in Belfast in 1876. They had several children, Frank, Joseph, Catherine, William John, Patrick and my great grandfather Thomas McCarthy.
I know that James' fathers name was Definitely Daniel, but am not sure if his mother was Catherine, Mary or someone else? The marriage details on the church record for James and MaryAnne were wrong (mixed up by the priest), with further investigation I have discovered James' dad was definitely Daniel McCarthy.
At present I am unable to find a birth record for James, possibly born in Ballinadee or Kilbrogan. I am also unable to find the record for his first marriage to Maria Montgomery, dont know if this was in Ireland or London maybe? I cannot find a death record for Maria either, I pressume that she died possibly in childbirth in 1875, Baby Maria died at 3 months old and as James was Catholic I doubt if he would have remarried so soon unless Maria, his first wife had died.
Please help, can anyone tell me how to serach Ballinadee parish records? I can not find anything on the irish genealogy ie website either. Any info would be great, I have a lot of info already which i would love to share.
My grandfather was Francis McCarthy from Belfast.

Hi,
Thank you for your message and also for you offer to share information!
Most Catholic records are held locally so the best course of action is probably to write to the Parish priest for possible assistance. Here is a link to the contact details for Ballinadee parish:

One website which you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific counties. For Ballinadee/Ringrone parish follow this link:
Here is a link to a map of Roman Catholic parishes in Cork, to see what records are available in each parish click on the parish. Also note, some parishes have multiple names so place the mouse over each parish to see alternate names.
