I am trying to trace my late husband's family history for my daughter and grandson and have hit a brick wall.

My late mother-in-law was Catherine Slyne, born 1 March 1918 in Kildorrery, and we have found nothing by way of certificates, etc, amongst her belongings that can help us;  we assume she destroyed any documents.   We did not know her exact date of birth until her death as she always claimed to be younger than she was!   My husband was born in April 1942 and even he did not know the date of his parents' marriage until his father's death - and even then only the month and year.   I have since discovered from the Irish Family History Foundation website that Catherine's marriage to John Patrick Casey of Mallow took place on 3 November 1941 in Mallow and we know that they moved to the UK immediately after that.   I attach a copy of John Casey's baptism record, which had a written note on it regarding the marriage.   I wonder if there is anyone out there who has further information regarding the Slyne family or can suggest where else I might look.

  • Yes, Lena - I made contact.   It turned out it was one of my husband's cousins who I had met at my mother-in-law's funeral!  At first I didn't think I was going to get a response but it turns out she was having trouble with her connection and is also in the middle of an online family history course, so time is limited.   She has given me some basic info and will give me more when she has more time.

    Thanks for your help.
