My gggrandfather Denis Carroll, who likely lived in the village, married Margaret Kennedy in 1813. Because Baptismal records were not kept that early, I am not sure of who their older children were. I do know that my ggrandmother, Ann Carroll, born c1819, was one of them. She married James Kenny c1840. (I cannot find the marriage in Kildorrery records although the Baptism of their first child is there). Another child born before records were kept was John Carroll who married Catherine Fenton and emigrated to New Brunswick, Canada. I am wondering if there was an older son Denis because a Denis Carroll served as a Baptismal sponsor for Ann Carroll Kenny's oldest child. (This family then moved to Knockadea, Ballylanders, Limerick). I don't know if it was customary in Kildorrery for fathers to be Baptismal sponsors or not. Understanding whether or not this was common would help me to know whether Denis was the father or a son. The other children I know of are Edmond (1827); Catherine (1830); Mary (1832); and Anthony (1837). I have no idea what became of Catherine, Mary, or Anthony but would love to find descendants.
I did find a marriage even earlier of a Denis Carroll to a Mary Carey of Tankardstown. I don't know if this i my gggrandfather who married Margaret as his second wife, or if there was another Denis Carroll living in Kildorrery at the time. I would also like to add that I get the impression that my Carrolls were the poor cousins. There was a large Carroll family who becamse wealthy land-wise. My grandfather, Dennis Kenny, was an apprentice in a bakery that was owned by Anthony Carroll, his cousin, in Kildorrery. Whether Anthony was a first cousin or a 2nd cousin to my ggrandmother I cannot determine.

Hi
have found many Carroll's in the records. I too am related to the Carroll's and the Stantons through the Gallagher's
and through the Kennedy's A Kennedy was married to my Uncle John. I think the only way we can
trash this out is to meet? what do you think?

I was wondering how you connect to the Gallaghers and Stantons. I have a double connection with this family.
My Carrolls in Kildorrery seem not to be related (or at least not all closely related) to the Carrolls of Ballynoulty, but the Gallaghers who intermarried with the Ballynoulty Carrolls are all part of my Gallagher extended family.
I am connected to both the Kennedys and Carrolls through the marriage of my gggrandparents.
I have a feeling you live in Ireland? If so, perhaps we could email back and forth? Or if you have an iPad we could do Facetime. I would definitely be interested in sharing information. Jan

Hi Jan
Yes I live in the Kildorrery Parish, my GGGMother was a Mary Gallagher married to a Patrick Heffernan
A Gallagher Married a Stanton, A Caplice, A Fitzgibbon, and a Carroll and there were many more Gallaghers. If you look at the Historicgraves.ie site you will find Gallaghers buried in Molagga Graveyard in the Kildorrery parish, they are our ancestors. Would love to share info with you.
Best wishes Lena

Lena, I would love to share with you. I do have information on the Heffernan branch. I have been trying to hypothesize as to who the original sons of "Big Morris" were. I have tried to base my information on the notes of Jack Maume who said the first one in Kildorrery, Maurice/Morris Gallagher, had five sons. There is a new book out about Glenroe school, and in that book someone gave notes written by Jack about the Gallaghers. It differs here and there from the notes he left for family. In that set of notes he said there were six sons. We know the names of two sons: Johnny and Thomas. I have been able to follow Johnny's family and Thomas's family. Thomas is my 3rd ggrandfather. He is one of the Gallaghers buried in Molagga Cemetery. Two years ago I visited someone in Tipperary who descends from Thomas Gallagher and Ellen Casey. We have wondered if this Thomas descends from Thomas Gallagher and Ellen Lane in 1809. ... Do you think Mary Gallagher who married Patrick Heffernan was the daughter of Maurice Gallagher and Johanna Fitzpatrick? ... I was in Kildorrery two or three years ago. I stayed with the Barrys who live on the same road as the church but who are in Ballyanehan and thus in Ballindangan RC parish. I hope to be in Co. Limerick (the general Patrtickswell area) May 4, 5, and 6. I will fly out of Shannon to Boston on May 7. ... My ggggrandfather, as I mentioned, was Thomas. He raised a family in Kilcruaig, Kilflyn, Limerick - just over the border from Kildorrery. I descend from his son Thomas who settled in Houdscourt. Lena, my email address is janfortado"at" comcast.net If for some reason that doesn't work for you, I also use janfortado2007"at" hotmail.com I used to open a new account every year I came to Ireland so I could email home, but managed to keep the one in 2007. I am REALLY looking forward to hearing from you. Jan

Marina, I'd love to connect with you. The name Anthony runs in my line.
I have one question: How did you discover Kildorrery was the place in Ireland where your Carrolls came from?
I have done quite a bit of research on this family and would like to explore with you, but it would be easier if we continued on email. My email address is janfortado@comcast.net If you could send me a brief message, we could go from there.
If you subscribe to Ancestry, you should be able to find me at janfortado1 I keep most of my information on my computer, but you can see the basic information on Ancestry.
I look forward to connecting with you. Jan
