Hi
I am trying to find any further information for my Great Great Great Grandfather Richard Finn who was baptised in Kildorrery on 21st May 1832. His parents were John Finn born in Coul, Cork and Margaret Conway who were married in Kildorrery on 28th November 1807. As there is such a large gap of years from marriage to having Richard i am thinking that there must be more siblings. Richard come over to England in the early 1850's but i think his parents remained behind in Ireland. Anyone have any suggestions as to how i might further my research please.
Thanks
Andrea

Andrea:
The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kildorrery parish showed a John Finn in the village of Kildorrery (Oldcastletown). Not sure if this is the same John Finn since it was 45 years after the marriage.

RC church records for Kildorrery are available on Roots Ireland. www.rootsireland.ie starting in 1824. Roots is a pay site. They have the 1832 baptismal record for Richard so possibly they have records for other children from 1824-1832 and after.

Hi Andrea
I found a baptismal record for Margaret Finn born to John Finn and Margaret Conway on 23/08/1829 with sponsors Maurice Geary and Margaret Finn with address Kildorrery. It is possible that there were other births but the baptismal records for Kildorrery only start from 1824.
Best of luck with your research

Andrea,
On March 1, 1898, when my great grandparents (Maurice FitzGerald) emigratated from Ireland to the US, they transferred their farm to a Richard Finn. The farm was located on the townland of Ballinslea (sometimes spelled as Ballintlea), which is in the adjacent Civil and RC Parish of Doneraile. I have visited the farm several times and personally thought it was closer to Kildorrery or Farahy (now part of Kildorrery) parishes. Oldcastletown is in the area as well.
The farm is now owned by a Mary Young. I'm not sure if her late husband's ancestors bought the farm from directly from descendants of the Finns. There is a Geary family in Quitrent, Kildorrery. Their ancestors could have been the Maurice, who was the baptismal sponsor.
I hope this helps.

Hi Andrea
The Richard Finn that Ray is referring to married a Mary Sheehan of Castlepook, Doneraile. Richard had a daughter Joanna in 1880. She married William Young who it appears is a direct ancestor of the Youngs who still live in Ballinslea. If he is your Richard then you are related to the Youngs. Those records are not in Kildorrery so are possibly in the Doneraile Parish so maybe thats where you should look. On another point there is a townland called Coole in the Kildorrery Parish so maybe thats where John was from. There is only one house in the townland of Coole. If I can be of any further help get back to me. Good luck with your search.

That is amazing information to follow up, thank you so much! Richard may well have had a daughter called Joanne because his first wife was called Joanne Downs. They met and married in England though, but that is some huge coincidence if not.
I will look into this further. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this down to me.
Kindest regards
Andrea
