Greetings,  I have actually broken through a brick wall thanks to the help and idea provided by Jane on another Cork message board!

Now I am trying to find siblings for John Condon and/or Mary Calahane also spelled Cahillane. Mary's parents were Michael and Mary Cahalane.

My gr gr gr grandmother was Ellen Condon, child of John and Mary Cahillane Condon and I believe I have finally found the family in Kildorrery! Ellen b.12/4/1842; Bridget b 10/15/1844; Richard b. 10/31/1846 and John b. 6/19/1857. It seems likely that there were other children during that 10 year gap which I will have to look for.

I may have found John and Mary's marriage record in Glanworth.

I suspect that John Condon had two brothers named Richard and Edmund/Edward and am trying to prove this. Is there any trick to discovering the parish that the groom came from assuming that the couple married in the bride's parish?

Thanks for any ideas.

  • Hi Pamela

Greetings from Kildorrery. John Condon and Mary Cahillane were married  in Kildorrery Church (not Glanworth) on 05/04/1842.Witnesses were Michael Cahillane and William Cahillane. Married by Fr JJ Golden.

Ellen born 04/12/1842 sponsors: William Cahillane and Winifred McMahon. Address Kildorrery

Bridget 15/10/1844 Sponsors:  Timothy Noonan and Margaret Noonan. Addresss still Kildorrery which would mean the Village.

Richard 31/10/1846 Sponsors are Michael Magner and Mary Daly. Address still Kildorrery

Did not find John or any other children in Kildorrery records. Is it possible they had moved by then.

Please note our dates go day/month/year.

Please get back to us if we can be of further help.

    Regards

  • Lena and Brenda,

Thanks so much for the information! You have been agreat help. Did you see any records on the siblings of John Condon or Mary Cahillane? Since the witness Michael was probably her father maybe the William is her brother or maybe they were both brothers.

    Thanks Again!
