When my great-grandfather's nephew John Condon emigrated to Connecticut in 1907, he listed his father as James Condon (my namesake) of Graigue, Kildorrery. Are there any records for him anywhere in town...and where or what is Graigue?
John Condon was living with my great-grandparents (William Condon-b. 1844 in Kildorrery- and Maggy Flynn) in the 1910 census in New London, Connecticut (my hometown), but we have no record of him after that.
Any help appreciated!

There are 72 Johns in Cork in 1901

If this is your man it looks like he was born 1883 to James and Catherine.

A search 5 years either side of 1883 brings up 6 (incl. John) children to couples named James and Catherine.
There are 8 matches to James m. to a Catherine 1843-1883
Play about with the date ranges and drop down menu before buying the transcripts, or using up your limited free pages. Experiment with letters of the alphabet to work out the names of children and even mothers surname. Do as much as you can for free before spending money on transcripts. Once you have a child's name you can experiment with the various parishes in the drop down menu until you find a match. This way you can minimise the number of transcripts you need to buy.

Hi Jim
I have done further research on the Condons of Graigue. They are all gone now from the area. They lived near the cross that was known locally as Condons Cross. The property is now owned by Caplices. Anne Condon married a Dempsey man and was living in Fermoy. She had three sons and one of those was working in Cavanaghs Garage in Fermoy and is believed to have gone to England. The other sons may also have gone to England. Anne was Dempsey's second wife. He had a son by his first wife called Martin who was a pretty well known Irish actor. You can find details of him on the internet. Anne Condon worked at Magniers Stud Farm in Fermoy. I also heard that a Condon man who lived in Scart, Kildorrery was one of the Graigue Condons. I am going to contact someboby else who may have some more information and I will get back to you.

Hi Jim
Just came across some interesting stuff. It looks as if James Condon of Graigue was buried in the family plot in Kilgullane Graveyard which would be Glanworth parish. This would suggest that they are related to the Condons of Ballindangan, Glanworth. You can look up the records for Kilgullane in the historic graveyards site but there is no record of James. It is possible that his name was never added to their headstone or has been obliterated in time.

Dear Brenda,
Thank you for the info regarding the Ballindangan/Glanworth Condons at Kilgullane. We were all very interested to learn we may be related somehow to the Fenian William Condon, who is buried there! Please let me know if you run across any other connections, you've been a godsend!
Best Regards,

Dear Lena,
I meant to reply a little bit more quickly, but I wanted to thank you for your search---it does look like a match! I also have "Hannah" listed as a "Johannah" on another record, but the children's names are the same. Thank you again for taking the time and effort to help my ongoing quest!
Best Regards,
