Greetings from Adelaide, South Australia. My name is Kathryn Walsh.

My great great grandparents came from Kildorrery. John Kelly and Margaret Sullivan married on 21 February 1843 in Kildorrery parish. They had five children: Mary baptised on 4 February 1844; Johanna baptised on 20 January 1846; Margaret baptised on 30 May 1848; John born c1852; and Michael baptised on 21 June 1855. The family address at the time of the births of Mary, Johanna and Margaret was Old Castletown; and Michael was born in Mitchelstown. They all immigrated to South Australia in 1866. John senior sadly died of typhoid in 1870, leaving Margaret to raise the family, who all married and had children of their own in Adelaide. I am descended from Michael Kelly, who married Margaret Crotty, who was also from Mitchelstown, in Adelaide in 1877.

Are there members of the extended Kelly and Sullivan families still in the Kildorrery/Mitchelstown area? Can we find out the names of John Kelly and Margaret Sullivan's parents? Did they have brothers and sisters who stayed in Ireland?

We are visiting Kildorrery in September 2013, and would love to meet anyone from the extended family, or to find out more about our Kelly and Sullivan families.

  • Hi Kathryn, Greetings from Kildorrery, alas there are no Sullivan's or Kelly's living in Oldcastletown at the moment and we cannot find any information on decendants. What we do know is that there are at least 3 families of Crotty's living in the Mitchelstown Parish so maybe we will get some info. from them.

Will let you know if we find anything

Best Wishes with your research Lena
