Patrick O'Hearn my gggreatgrandfather is known to be from Killeagh County Cork. Patrick's date of birth is recorded as 1819, he emigrated to America as early as 1840 possibly as late as 1850. I have the benefit of research done by my grandmothers cousin, Dorothy O'Hearn. Dorothy was born in 1897 i am not sure at what time she researched, but she and i have found many of the same records, Dorothy and her grandfather Patrick both lived in Gardner Massachusetts, and Dorothy traveled to Ireland at least once.. Patrick died when Dorothy was 23 years old, and Dorothy should have heard many stories relating to Killeagh and Ireland. Patricks wife was Mary Driscoll (1826-1867), who was from Killeagh as well. Patrick and Mary emmigrated with a group from the same local place in Ireland, arrived in New Haven Connecticut and soon married around 1850 in Hartford or Willimantic CT.. Patrick was preceded in America by his brothers Cornelius, William and John. Patricks brothers settled around Albany and Troy New York. One brother, Philip remained in Ireland, two of Patricks sisters Margaret and Bridget also came to America. Margarets husband served in the American Civil War and was shot during an assault on Fort Fisher, Cape Fear South Carolina. Patricks parents first names are unknown except his mothers maiden name Mead. Love to share info have quite a few descendants of this family. Jim Houlihan (New Jersey)

Hi Jim,
As chairperson of the Killeagh/Inch historical group i would be delighted to know what information you have on the family and see if we can locate the place of origan for you.
The Baptismal records for the Killeagh Parish only date from 1829 which is too late for your Patrick. I wonder if you have dates of births for any other members of the family? Census returns or naturalisation papers would maybe have them. Also the shipping records.
If the name was Ahern there are baptisms of children to a John Ahern and Catherine Mead dating from 1830 to 1839 which may be the ones you are looking for William, Phil, Margaret,Thomas and Bridget.
The Ahern, Mead(e) and Driscoll names are all in the Parish.
The Killeagh Old graveyard readings are available on the historic graveyards website www.historicgraves.ie where you can see a number of Ahern headstones.
Do you have any of the other family names of the people who went out around the same time?
I look forward to hearing from you. Direct e-mail anneoneillk@gmail.com.
Regards for now. Anne.

just wanted to contact you concerning this post, was just beginning family genealogy and wanted to see if we were speaking about the same O'Hearns of Gardner Mass. My father was Philip J. Carroll, 1919-1995, he had two brothers George and Richard( Dick) their mother was Katherine O'Hearn 1886-1955 and Father George J. Carroll 1883-1955, ( Pharmacist, Gardner Mass.). Katherines parents were Patrick O'Hearn, Jr. 1853- 1925, her mother was Marry Barry 1863-1890(?). I am working on my fathers side but am also interested in any family history associated with the O'Hear genealogy as well as knowing if you think we are speaking about the same family.
Thanks
Phil Carroll
