Do you know much about Jeremiah's emigration? Dates, the reason why he left, etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city he arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. 

There are five civil parishes in Killeagh, Co Cork. If you had any further information on a particular placename you could search http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/placenames/index.cfm?fuseaction=Simple&UserID= in an attempt to narrow these down. You can check for information about the frequency and distribution of the name in the mid-19th century and any other variant spellings of the name here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ . 

You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Hi Lilian,

Did yourJeremiah get married and have children? The names of the children may give possible parents as they usually followed a pattern at that time.

There are a few Collins families in Killeagh Parish but the bad news is that the Baptismal register only dates from 1829 with the marriage one from a few years earlier approx 1823. 

This is my reason for asking for family names as it may give some idea of where to ask.

Thanks for your reply. Jermiah was born about 1804. His first wife is believed to be Catherine Hays born 1806. The second wife was Mary Elizabeth Robins also born about 1806.

His children as far as I know are :

Ann 1826 (mother believed to be Catherine)

Jeremiah 1831

Mary 1834

John Charles 1836

William 1838

George 1839

Catherine 1841

Margaret 1845

Edward 1847

Charles 1849

Hi Anne,

The only one I am not too sure about is Ann. Both marriages were in the London / Middlesex area so, I so I suspect they were all born in England.

If you do track anyone down I am sure they would be interested in Jerimiah (b. 1831) and the court case shown on the Old Bailey web site.
