Hi,
My great geandmother Ellen (Mc)Sweeney (1870-1951) came from Kilmacabea to Killeagh c.1900 with Rev. Day. Her brother Peter (1858-1945) also came with her, where they worked in the Glebe house. They could have lived around Glandore, Leap, Myross or UnionHall.
I am looking for information on their parents John (Mc)Sweeney and Mary Minihane, ie marriage details etc. Also info on siblings Elizabeth (Mc)Sweeney b.1855, Mary (Mc)Sweeney b.1861, Catherine (Mc)Sweeney, 1864, Margaret (Mc)Sweeney b.1867 Ballincolla.
Thanks
Paudie Lee

Hi Paudie,
Thank you very much for your message.
Have you tried looking in church records in Kilmacabea for information? You may be able to find John and Mary?s marriage cert etc.
Using the Irish TImes websites you can see that Catholic records are available in the parish from 1832-1880:
These records have been uploaded to Irish Genealogy?s websites free of charge as part of an ongoing project. You can search these here:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
You can also find information in civil records. Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Have you tried looking for the family in the 1901/1911 census records to see if you can find any information on the siblings at the time? You can search these here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
You could also check for record of the family in the land records from earlier in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: www.familysearch.org
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/cork/index.html
Failte Romhat: www.failteromhat.com
I hope that some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
