Hello,

I am helping an American descendant of Richard Wholey, who had a farm in Knockskagh in the 1901 and 1911 censuses.  Do you know if any relatives might still be living in the area?

1901 census:  Richard 45; Bridget 38, Patrick 17 (moved to USA), Ellie 16 (moved to USA), Maggie 14, John 12, Richard 10, James 8, Mary 6, Jeremiah 4, Michael 3 (moved to USA), Daniel 2, Bridget (infant)

1911 census:  Richard 59, Bridget 49, Ellie 25 (moved to USA), John 22, Richard 21, Mary 16, Jeremiah 14, Michael 12    (moved to USA), Dan 10, Denis 8, Julia 4, Hanna 2

Jeanie, the descendant, has already contacted the Skibbereen Heritage Center, who will be sending her the records for Patrick (was 17 in the above 1901 census), and his siblings and parents.  Patrick is Jeanie's Great Grandfather.

Thank you,

Mary Van Dyke

  • You may have long since found your answer, but there were Whooleys living in the area around 2000, and I met with one of them. They owned the Connolly home in Knockskagh that my great-uncle built in 1907 (now in ruins).

  • Hello,

I am one of 19 grandchildren of Michael Wholey, listed above in the 1911 census.  I don't know much about  the other Wholeys here in USA, although I think Ellie was my mother's godmother. I'd be interested if anyone has more information!

  • Hello,

My name is Karen McCormack, my grandfather was Jeremiah Wholey, born around 1901. (CORK)

He married Delia (Oconnell) (GALWAY)- Not sure if they married in Ireland or America. Delia was young coming to America, Jeremiah was many years older (maybe 7 or 8)

They moved to Brighton/Boston and settled in Jamaica Plain.

I have many photos from the 30's through the 60's in Ireland but do not know any of them.

My mom (Dolly) Kathleen Wholey was born in Boston in 1940 and has passed away and I no longer am connected to people who would know all of these people.

I would be thrilled to connect with extended family.
