I am looking for my Grandmother, Margaret Mary Collins birthplace in Ireland. She was born in 1894, her father's name was Denis Collins, mother's name Mary last name starts with a D but I cannot read the whole name.  I have been searching for a very long time now and would appreciate any information anyone can give me about her life in Ireland.  She left Ireland for the U.S. about 1813 I think. She may have left from County Clare but again I am not sure of that.  Her father Denis was already in Maine I believe when she arrived.  She lived in Maine and Massachusetts where she died.  I never knew her personally and I am very sad for that but I am determined to know about her. So any information anyone can give me to connect her to her birthplace and her life in Ireland I would be so very grateful.

Thank you,

Sheryl (Margaret Mary's Grandaughter)

Very few Co. Clare church records are online currently.

Have you looked for her ship arrival record either into Boston on NYC. With an 1913 arrival there may be info on who her contact was in Ireland and the name of the person meeting her.

Can you forward the document with the mother's name on it?

  • Mr. McDonnell,

Thank you for responding to my inquiry.  The Margaret Mary I am looking at left Ireland in July 1912, I am afraid I interpreted the information wrong and as you can see she lists her Mother as Mary Collins and mother's address as Claregalway in County Galway.  Since this is a year after the 1911 census in which Margaret is no longer listed with Denis and Mary Ellen and the siblings as in the 1901 census.  The thing is that I am almost sure Denis left for America before Margaret did.  Of course it could also be that one or both of these is not my Grandmother.  They both fit so well though.  I am attaching the ship information as you asked.  I will try to attach the marriage information that I have from Maine with her father who signs Pat not Denis and her mother who is not in attendance as I don't believe she came here.  This is the document that I have not been able to decipher her mother's last name from.  Note they have spelled her name wrong on the marriage document.  Not a great help but this one I know is she.  lol

Thank you so much for any help you can offer.  It is rather exhausting work at times isn't it?

    Sincerely.

    Sheryl

As it turns out, I am unable to attach the files for a couple reasons, too big and not acceptable file type.  Do you have an email address I can send them to?

  • Hello Roger,

I tried to send you the information you requested but I received a notice that it was not delivered for whatever reason.  Can you let me know if you got the information.  I may need to send each attachment separately.

    Thank you

I think we might be looking for the same Margaret Mary Collins.  Did she marry Kenneth Nutting and have like 10 kids, including twins (my grandmother) Charlotte Nutting.  I get mixed messages because her death certificate says she was born 12/6/1898 and died 10/7/1967. If this is the same Margaret Collins?  Her inlaws were the Stricklands from Maine.
