I am looking any information about my great-grandfather, TImothy McCarthy, born 22 Feb 1842. His father was Jeremiah or Isaiah, and his mother was Julia Hurley.
TImothy emigrated to the USA (Pennsylvania) in 1868 out of Queenstown.
His obituary said that he served in the British Army in Ireland. Where can I find information about his service?

We might be related! My grandmother's mother was Margaret McCarthy and on the 1901 census my grandmother was staying with her aunt, Kate Hurley!
My grandmother was born in 1882, so Timothy could have been her uncle. It's interesting that he married a Hurley, but not Kate.
