I am searching for my husbands ancestors. I have a baptism certificate for Jeremiah Minihane. He was baptised in the Church of St. Patrick Parish of Kilmoe, West Schull Co., Cork, Ireland by Rev. L. O'Sullivan PP, on October 2nd 1829. His father's name was Michael Minihane and his mother was Mary Minihane. I would like to find out more about his father & Mother and any other relatives that might still be in Ireland. If anyone could help me or show me what direction to go in, I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Mary Minihan

I've been researching historical informaiton on Michael Minihane also. John and Patrick are likely close relatives (grandparent, uncle, cousin) of Michael. The next closest Minihanes to Goleen would have been around Gortnamona. It doesn't make sense that those Minihanes would walk past the Schull Parish to attend the Goleen Parish.

As pointed out, there are no Minihanes listed in Griffiths in 1851, which I took as evidence that they had all died, moved to another part of Schull, or emigrated. But Jeremiah Minehan was convicted of the murder of Patrick Burke outside of Goleen in November of 1858. I guess you alwasy have to remember that the Tithe Applotments and Griffiths Valuation only take into account landowners or their renters. They don't include people may have been labourers, squatters, and possibly others.

Have you made any advances since your post in 2014?
