I am loooking for alocation of a record that may match my research focus, John Buckley. John was son of a Michael Buckley. I do not know mother's name. Best I can do is eldest daughter was Johanna. He was born abt 1827. There is a baptism record that is close. Mother name Honora. The place name is baffling me:
Glounerrag. I can see similar Glenroag and Glounaroag involving same parents. I cannot find this townland or plce anywhere. Can someone assist me? Is this place still in Kilmurry RC Parish?
Thank you in advance.

Hi John
There are 7 Cork baptism records for John Buckley with father Michael in 1827 + - 5 years on www.rootsireland.ie/
http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y
The first is 1827 & the last is 1832; 3 are from Clondrohid RC and there is 1 from Mallow RC, Kilnamartyra RC Glantane RC & Coachford RC
The list of parishes didn't include any name like Glounerrag
There is a record of a Mary Buckley with parents Michael & Honor Cork 1831 but the parish is none of those above
rootsireland charges for the records
I can see the Glounerragg record on www.irishgenealogy.ie/ so if the rootsireland info is no use hopefully one of the Cork experts can solve the mystery for you

Thank you for taking the time to look those 7 records up. Unfortunately I have purchased and investigated each of those to no avail. I have strong reason to believe that this Buckley is from the Bandon River Valley or nearby. John Buckley was one of the many who left Cork for Wales about 1850. He married Mary Scannell in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in 1852. John's age was listed as 22, Mary's 19. Mary's actual age was 20. In the early years in Merthyr they shared housing and lived adjacent to others from this Bandon area. All church witnesses and sponsors are surnames consistent with this area. Mary was from Kinsale. Entire family moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1870-71. 2 of their children married members or descendants of Hayes family of Bandon. Although I could find no connection to other Buckley families in Merthyr, I do know they come from Innishannon vicinity.
With the scant information I have on John Buckley's family , just father Michael it would be unlikely to confirm any potential match if his baptism record still exists. There are many gaps in record 1820-30's. It would likely take some local family lineage, thus my reason for the placename query. I was fortunate enough to get this type of information to negate another potential match in Inchigeela a few years back. Anything is possible and just maybe. Thank you again
