Hello! My 7th great-grandfather was James Kelly born in Kinneigh around 1670, died around 1710. He married Mary Dye (1675–1769). Their son James Kelly (or Kelley) was born in Derry, Cavan, Ireland about 1710. He and his mother immigrated to the USA where she died in Baltimore, Maryland. Is that too far back in history to find any information about them?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Yes, it would be too far back to find any records for your Kellys. Almost all parishes (RC or Church of Ireland) have records that start in the 1800s.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Thank you so much for your response, Roger. Yes, I've done DNA testing at all the major sites, but so far I haven't seen any matches outside the USA. But most of my ancestors came over in the 17th and 18th century and DNA gets pretty diluted over that period of time.

    Thanks again!

I have Kelley ancestors who emigrated to Clinton county, New York @ 1840 from, possibly Kinneigh, county Cork.  Could you let me have your Gedmatch kit number or could you compare it to XF4056137 on my behalf please? Thank you.
