In 1883, my great, great, great grandmother, Catherine Hickey died in Blenheim, near Laidley, Queensland Australia.  Her official death entry said .she was born in Castletown Cork and that her parents names were Patrick Hickey and Ellen Kelleher.  I subsequently found the marriage record in 1826 for this couple in the ecclesiastical parish record for Enniskeane, and baptismal records for Cathe in 1827, Kitty in 1833 and Dennis in 1836. The last record I could find was a baptism for Mary Crowley in 1839 at which Ellen Kelleher was a sponsor.

I also learned from Samuel Lewis's "A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland" 1837, that Castletown was at the time a “a village, in the parish of KINNEIGH, Western division of the barony of EAST CARBERY, county of CORK, and province of MUNSTER; and containing 314 inhabitants. It is situated the heart of a wild mountainous district, and for some time after the English settlement in the reign of Jas. I. was a flourishing town, but being sacked in the war of 1641 it never revived. It now contains 57 small cabins indifferently built, and has fairs for cattle, sheep, and pigs on Jan. 1st, Easter-Tuesday, May 12th, and Sept. 4th. Here is a R. C. chapel.”

Can anyone provide any information about Hickeys (Hickys Hickies) and or Kellehers (Kelihers, Kelihers, Kelighers etc.) in the area before 1826 or after 1839?

Does anyone know anything about the chapel that predated the church of St Jospeh's Castletown-Kinneigh?

Does anyone have any information about a grave marker for the Hickey Family from Paddock in Castletown Kinneigh?  There's a thumbnail for it on Ginni Swanton's Website at http://www.ginnisw.com/Ireland%20Trip%202001/Kinneigh%20and%20Castletow…

I would be glad to give any of their descendants information about the family in Australia.

Thank you

Robyn Stephens
