DOOLING AND SWANTON FAMILIES
Looking for information about my great-great-grandparents, Patrick Dooling(1794-1877) and Ann Swanton(1796-1888) who I believed lived in the Desertserges-Bandon area of Kinneigh, County Cork. Patrick Dooling was the son of Patrick Dooling and Ellen O'Neil. I believe that Patrick Dooling and Ann Swanton had twelve children--three or four whom were born and baptized in Desertserges, County Cork and eight or nine children whom were born and baptized in St Albans, Vermont. I have found baptismal records in Desertserges, County Cork for three of their children--Ellen Dooling(17MAY1827), Michael Dooling(31JAN1829) and Batt Dooling(03MAY1831). I believe that Patrick Dooling and Ann Swanton emigrated to the United States between 1831-1841.
I would like to know the birth dates, marriage date and the parents of my great-great-grandparents, Patrick Dooling(1794-1877) and Ann Swanton(1796-1888). I would also like to find out information about their emigration to the United States.
It would a great plus if I could connect with cousins in County Cork.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
As civil registration did not begin in Ireland until 1864, you will have to look at Church records for this information. Please be aware however, that it can sometimes be difficult to find records prior to 1800 in Ireland.
Most Catholic records are held locally so it may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Desertserges parish follow this link:
You should also check in Bandon?s records. Here is what is available there:
For information on Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
Have you tried looking for Church records online? There are some sites which may be helpdul.
www.familysearch.org Have a huge databse of genealogical records includinf some church records for Ireland.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ This is an ongoing project where church records are being uploaded free of charge. Not all areas have been covered yet, however records for the Cork and Ross Diocese are available.
www.rootsireland.ie Als have a vast collection of church records, however you have to pay to view these records.
I hope that this information is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

I'm not sure exactly HOW close we may be or if this is of any help, but my great-great grandfather Michael Dooling was born 19 Oct 1837 in Newcastle, Co. Tipperary. Eventually emigrating to Central Illinois. Not sure of his parents, but married Margaret Lockman from Cashel, Ireland.
