Hello
I am new to this board and encouraged that maybe I may be able to solve the origins.
I know that my Mary Scannell was baptised August 14, 1831 in Kinsale. She was daughter of Edward Scannell and Mary nee Harrington. Sponsors: Darby Crowley and Bridget Collins. I was unable to locate any other siblings of this family.
Mary married John Buckley, son of Michael Buckley, in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in 1851. Edward Scannell was listed as deceased in marriage doc. Mary's mother also moved to Wales. Mary and John Buckley had children: Johanna 1852, Edward 1855, Margaret 1860, John 1863, Ellen 1865, Bridget 1867 and Catherine 1870 in Merthyr, Wales. Entire family moved to Pittsburgh, PA US in 1870-71. They had 2 more children in Pittsburgh Cornelius 1873 and Jeremiah 1876.
I am both looking to expand this family in Ireland. I can only seculate that the Buckley family is also Bandon River Valley. Neither John or Mary can be confirmed on Wales 1851 census. Family names close to Buckley Scannell family in Wales early years: Minihan, Goggin, Driscoll, Donahue(hoe), Coleman.
Thank you in advance.
John

John:
I would search www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free Irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records. There are many Buckley records in Kinsale parish so I would focus my research on that area first.

Thank you. I am familiar with that excellent site but your suggestion gave me reason to look again as we all know when you walk away from a puzzle and return you often find pieces. Well, I did find some curious combinations that make me think. Thank you. However, so far I haven't found anything that I could feel confident on but an excellent suggestion. What I remember my problem is that there are some gaps in the RC records for Kinsale and Bandon 1820-1830's where I really need them. Do you know if there is any plan to complete this collection. Otherwise it will take a lucky match of some family info to complete.
The source was the place that I located the baptism for Mary Scannel in Kinsale 8/14/1831 which cross checked with a Mary Harrington in Wales and birth info on her death certificate. An outstanding source, just wish there was a little bit more of it.
Thanks Again

I would believe that they have posted all the records that are available. Likely there are gaps in the records for Kinsale and Bandon churches where records were lost. You can try to contact the current churches to see if they can confirm what records are available.

I extend my sincere thank you as a fresh look and a new record made public recently in PA has confirmed the marriage of my GGG Grandparents Joseph Hayes and Johanna Scannell in Bandon, Jan 1845. They must have added some records to Bandon collection as I also found my GG grandmother Mary Hayes and 2 siblings. This family also left Cork for Wales and came to Pittsburgh in the 1870's. They married into the Buckley-Scannell family twice, thus my reason for suspecting Buckley stems from somewhere between Bandon and Kinsale.
Thank You.

Good news! From my experience, persistence is the key and new sources appear every month. One of the new sources is the 1841-1851 Census search forms related to the Old Age Pension Act. I found info on three diiferent lines by using this source. Worth a look.
