Hello,

I am seeking the birth or baptism of a Myles MURPHY born c1807 in Kinsale, parents unknown.

Myles married in 1828 in Lambeth, Surrey, England, in 1841 in London, England he was a witness at the wedding of a Ann MURPHY alias Johanna Murphy, and Ann was born about 1818 in Enniskillen, Ireland the daughter of a Denis Murphy, a Shoemaker

My great great great grandfather is a Denis Murphy, born about 1824 in Ireland, whereabouts unknown, his father is also a Denis Murphy and also a Shoemaker, so hoping Ann may be his sister and Myles a possible relative??

Hoping someone can help me find something, thank you

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked www.irishgenealogy.ie which has the Kinsale church records and there was no Myles Murphy baptismal record. Records start in 1805 so it is possible he was born right before the start of records. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0073

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

  • Hi Roger,

I have done the Ancestry DNA Test so maybe one day I might get lucky and find a Match

    Thank you for your reply

I have tested with Ancestry DNA and Family Tree DNA. Ancestry is difficult because so many people keep their tree private or have no tree at all. There is a site called Gedmatch  www.gedmatch.com whihc is a volunteer run site where you can upload your raw DNA data from Ancestry and see if you match someone who has tested with another company like Family Tree (and also uploaded their raw DNA data to Gedmatch. Allows you to expand your potential matching universe.

  • Hi Roger,

I was on Gedmatch but found I never received any replies to emails etc, and only have the same Matches on there as on Ancestry.

Having read up on Ancestry a bit more about DNA Matches, it seems any DNA below 45cms is very difficult to trace ie: find the common ancestor, infact my highest Match on Ancestry is at 94cms and we still cannot find how we are connected.

One day the answers will come to us

    cheers

I know what you mean about no replies but actually my reply rate is around 50%. I get more action on Family Tree and Gedmatch.
