  • Patrick:

I looked at Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and found the 1850 baptism for Peter in Aughavas RC parish, Francis in 1854 (Aughavas) and Mary in 1860 (could not determine parish). Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of a church record.

I also looked at the 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Leitrim and found two Terence Short records. One was in Lissagarvan townland in Cloone civil parish and the other was in Lisgillock Glebe townland in the same parish. Possibly this is the same person with two holdings.

I also looked at the 1901 census for Lissagarvan and found at least 7 Short families, 3 of which I show below. The first one has an 81 year old Mary. Could she be Mary Reynolds? Was there more than 3 children in their marriage?

I also located a civil death index record for a Terence Short who died in 1873. Possibly this is the record for your ancestor. A copy of this record would cost around 4 euros from the General Register Office. If you want to get a copy let me know and I will forward instructions.

  • Thank you Roger,

I have copies of Church Baptism records for Peter,Francis and Ellen Short, there might have been more siblings,I dont know but if the Household record showing 81 year old Mary is the right family it looks like there were more,I would like to get a record of Terence Short,s Death and find a record of death of Mary

Short (Reynolds)  plus Marriage records if any, Then I may be able to carry on from there and look for Birth records for them.

Thank you very much for your assistance it is greatly appreciated

    Regards

    Patrick

I will give you two possible death index records for a Mary Short in the Mohill registration district. The first one is likely for the one in the 1901 census. The second one is fairly close ( date wise) to the Terence Short record. Instuctions for getting copies of records from the GRO are below the index records.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you. ,
