I am looking for genealogical information on my great, great, great grandfather:
- Michael Keenan who appears to have been born around 1798 in the
- Leitrum area (no more specific data than this) and
- emigrated to the Peterborough area of Ontario, Canada and appears to be on their census in 1833 but I have no specific immigration date or data.
- He married Annie Curr or Karr (several spellings) who was also born in Ireland around 1811. I do not have a county, province or village but the story passed down in the family was that this Annie was not Catholic but protestant and the daughter of a Landlord firmly against the marriage which was accomplished in secret with immigration soon after.
- Michael and Annie had several children but I have no firm number and they appear to have been born in the Ontario area. At least 4 of the children followed them to New Brunswick, Canada in the late 1860's. If there were more than 4 I assume the others stayed in the west and may have migrated from there.
- Michael and Annie may have been part of the original Robinson Settlement to New Brunswick , possibly the Killeen are initially, but I am not sure of this.
- Some say they responded to Bishop Sweeney's Solicitation to migrate and did so along with the Hurley and Cummings families.
- Michael and Annie eventually settled in Johnville, N.B.
- Michael died in Johnville in 1882, Annie's date of death is not known.
- Their son Michael (born @1833 at Rice Lake, Ontario married Catherine Hurley (born 1836 in Ontario).
- Cathereine Hurley Keenan died around 1880 in Johnville
- Michael Keenan died 1915 in Johnville.
- Children of Catherine and Michael Keenan are:
- Henry Keenan born March 1859 in Rice Lake, Ontario
- Daniel Keenan, born March 1860 at Rice Lake, Ontario, died January 17, 1946, Johnville
- Annie Keenan, born March 10th, 1866 in Rice Lake, Ontario
- James Keenan born 1868
- John Keenan, born 20th Dec. 1870
- Margaret Keenan born June 10th, 1873 in Johnville, N.B. - died Dec. 29, 1897 Johnville
- Louis Keenan born 1875, died 1935
- Daniel Keenan married Bridget McLaughlin, daughter of Mary Jane McAllister and William McLaughlin. Bridget was born February 2, 1866 and died June 25, 1946. Her sister Esther McLaughlin born 1871 married Daniel Keenan's brother James Keenan
- My grandfather Leo Keenan was one of Daniel and Bridget's many children

General-North/South America: Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason
why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at
the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g.
Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even
find out an exact place of origin.
