I am searching for the parents of Robert Patrick Conroy, born 15 March 1841, supposedly in Dublin "Wickland County" Ireland.  I believe that may actually be "County Wicklow"?  He came to the US about 1850, as he stated in the US 1900 census that he had been in the US for 50 years.

In the 1860 US census I show him living with the Lyman Andrews Family in Liberty, Delaware County, Ohio.  Robert Patrick Conroy served in the Union Army from 1862 - 1865 with the Ohio 96th Infantry.  During this time, he became a naturalized US citizen on 17 October 1863 in Delaware County, Ohio.

According to his military records he was 5'1" tall, had light complexion, blue eyes and light hair (as of 1862).  According to pension records, he became an invalis in 1884, and his widow, Orpha Moses Conroy, received a pension from his military service after his death on 7 September 1907 in Powell, Ohio.  He and Orpha had six children, four of whom were living in 1900.

I would very much like to identify the parents of Robert Patrick Conroy, as well as any documentation of his time in Ireland.

    Do you know much about his emigration? Dates, the reason why he left, who he may have travelled with etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

    Have you tried  checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

    or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/ for Robert or his relatives?
