My  GGrandmother Mary Mcmorrow was born about 1849  - family folklore has her birthday as 17th March  - ?. My first record of her is embarking in London on the ORARI in 1876 bound for N Z . She described herself as a Nurse ,aged 27.She married G G Father in Auckland in 1878 and had a son and daughter - there are lots of us now.She married as a Plymouth Brethren and died in 1916 as one also.I don't know what parish she came from nor her parents names or any siblings.I have been to Leitrim but could find nothing in the short time I was there. • Tony:

McMorrow is a very common name in Co. Leitrim primarily in Killarga and Cloonclare parishes. There were 173 McMorrow households in the 1901 census. Do you have the 1916 death record and does it list her father's name?

We could check the Griffiths Valuation data for Co. Leitrim if you can find her father's name.

  • Dear Roger, Thank you for taking the time to respond.Mary` s married name was Dyer - GGfather was from the I O Wight and she died here in Auckland , New Zealand  in 1916  - I have her Death Cert / Marriage Cert and neither lists her Parents . She and her husband , as was common did not have to provide much information in those days. No fathers name is the main problem I seem to have unless someone has a family with a 'lost ' Mary in it.

    Kind Regards, Tony
