Thomas Flanagan was living in Newcastle on Tyne , England in the 1951 census, he was living with his wife Ann and son James aged 6 years. His place of birth was stated to be Leitrum. Ireland, probably born about 1820!!.
He married Ann Conway in Newcastle in 1846. they had two more children that I know of ann born 1862 and Ellen born 1867 however I am sure there must have been other children born between 1846 and 1862 but so far i havent been able to identify any.
Ann Conway was born in Bolton Lancashire but her Parents were Irish . Her mother was Frances Harrison/Harris from Wicklow.
I have no other information about Thomas Flanagan, or Flannagn , Flanaghan it is spelt differntly in each census
can anyone help

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they mighthave travelled with..etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than theport of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, Ellis Island), this could be agood place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. Shippingmanifests can be checked ?which may lead to more clues. The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml Also have a look on these sites that i will post also they mite help you sir. The National Archives of Irelandhttp://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ The National Library of Irelandhttp://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx The National Archives UK ? genealogy search:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/ The Public Records Office of Northern Irelandhttp://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm The US National Archives:http://www.archives.gov/ Irish Newspaper Archives:http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/

Thank you for your suggestions, The only informstion I have about Thomas Flanagan is what I have found on the census returns where he was living on the River Tyne in England. He married there in 1846 but where he was before then I don't known as it is not an uncommon Name. As he came from a different county to the family he married into it seems likely that he met his wife in Newcastle .
Thank you again.
