Hello Doreen,
Thank you for replying to my Ancestry message:
I am trying to find out more about the Sharpes of Liscarroll, Cork, Ireland and find out what happened to Daniel and Ellen's 11 children and descendents. Also to try and go further back. I am descended from Cornelius Sharpe. His parents were:
Daniel Sharpe b. 1819 Liscarroll Cork Ireland d.30.6.1900 married 1.2.1860 Kilbolane Milford Co Cork to
Ellen Walsh b. 1840 Kilbolane Milford Co Cork.
Their children:

2. William b. 1865 living in Liscarroll in 1911 census.

11. Adventus b.10.12.1879 at Glenfield.
Family Search gives Daniel Sharpe's (snr)father as George Sharpe. I have a marriage of George Sharpe to Elizabeth Green on 22 June 1774 of Ballyhay, Cork Ireland. I believe Ballyhay to be close to Liscarroll and possibly a link?
For Ellen Walsh I have a post from Mimi giving R.C records from Milford:
Edmund Walsh and Mary Canty parents of:
Ellen Walsh bap.2 Jul 1836.
Catherine Walsh bap.17 Feb 1834.
Edmund Walsh bap 19 Aug 1831.
Bridget Walsh bap. 1 Oct 1828.
Daniel Sharpe was the Clerk to the Justices at Liscarroll.
I would love to hear from anyone with any link to any of the above people who might be able to help me more with my research and tell me anything about them.
I do know about Katherine Sharpe buried at Kilbrin:
C19
Katherine Sharpe of Glenfield
Died Feb. 5th 1860. Age 83 yrs.
she may be Daniel Sharpe's mother but I cannot be sure of this.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Many thanks, Karen

Hello Doreen,
I thought that I should add a little further information that I have:
The 4th child of Daniel and Ellen Sharpe: Mary Ellen born 1868 was known as Kate, she ran the Post Office in Liscarroll. She married the schoolmaster James Corbett and they had two children, Mary Ellen who became a nun and her brother, James Corbett who became a Priest and President of St Colman's College, Fermoy, Cork.
I know that Daniel Sharpe as well as being Clerk to the Justices at Liscarroll, was also an Inspector of Explosives and head of the local milk board. I understand their 2nd child, William took over the Clerk to the Justices in Liscarroll.
I have been looking at whether Daniel's father: George Sharpe was linked to the Sharpe's at Glenlohane but I have no information on George Sharpe.
I very much appreciate your kind help,
Many thanks,
Karen

Thank you very much indeed JD36 for this kind help. This seems to indicate that Daniel did not go to America but to Australia and was living in the Sydney area. We'd be interested to hear from any descendants of Daniel Sharpe in Australia. Many thanks.

Hello all,
I just this excellent web site yesterdy and was pursuing my Leahy line and may or may not be able to contribute to this, although I fear I may end up muddying the water...
John Leahy married Mary Ellen Sharpe of Liscaroll, Co Cork in March 30th 1902. John was born in 1874, as was (I believe) Mary Ellen. The marriage cert lists her father as being Daniel Sharpe, a "Petty Sessions Clerk" and a witness as being Margaret Sharpe. His address is given as Glenfield.
Are there 2 Sharpe families as this seem to contradict a previously well documented entry re the same Mary Ellen Sharpe marrying a local man?
https://www.geni.com/people/Ellen-Sharpe/6000000051217470089 - seems to verify this info.
Any help clarifying this is greatly appreciated.
FYI - if this Mary Ellen Sharpe is my Mary Ellen, then she moved to Limerick City (O'Connell Avenue) and became a Leahy.

Hello Jackie!
How wonderful to have found a descendant of Mary Ellen. You are definately in the right place and have found the right Sharpe family. I have since discovered there were in fact 12 children of Dan and Ellen. Katherine being the eldest. It took a lot of unjumbling as some of the children had different names for their baptism, then used different names on the census. I am descended from Cornelius, child 8. This summer we met the descendents of Patrick, child 9 for the first time which was wonderful. The other siblings who had children were Edward, child 2, possibly Daniel child 4 in Australia and obviously your Mary Ellen, child 5.
A strange coincidence, but on Friday one of Patrick's descendants sent me the 1911 census of the Leahy's at 35 Military Road, Limerick. From this we can see that Ellen Walsh Sharpe, the mother is visiting. Do you happen to know when Ellen, known here as Ellie, died and where?
We would love to know what happened to Augusta child 11, baptised Johanna born 1877 who went to Austro-Hungary, as a governess, pre world war 1.
Also Adventus, about whom we know nothing except that he was born in December 1879.
Do you possibly have any photos of Dan, Ellen or any of the 12 children? I have a photo of Cornelius' wedding, which also has Margaret, child 7 in and a memorial card for Dan Sharpe, but sadly nothing else. I'd be happy to let you have a copy of these though.
Are you descended from Thomas ODonohoe or John Daniel?
Look forward to hearing from you,
Best wishes,
Karen

Some updates-
Margart - never married and lived for a while with her sister Mary Ellen and James Corbett in Co. Limerick, then came to live with Ellen Sharpe and John Leahy (i.e. family) in Limerick City. She stayed with them and helped with all 7 children (including my father) and was much loved by them. She was known as Aunty Mogie! She died of cancer of the neck while the Leahy family were living in Achill Island, Co Mayo. She was in her 80s and it was around 1958.
With regards to Augusta, in the early 1900s she left Ireland to be a governess in Hunary (the Austro-Hungarian Empire). She went on to marry a local man ( a teacher) and had 2 daughters - known as Baby and Etty. Etty's husband was Emery. Etty and Emery had no children, but Baby had 1 daughter called Zia (and possibly a son who died at a young age). Augusta we think died in the mid 1950s. Her daughters died in the late 90s we think. Zia and her family we believe to be alive living in Hungary still.
There is a Pauline Kelly (nee Sharpe) and her brother X Sharpe (a dcotor) both living in Dublin who are related to possibly to either Patrick and William?
This update is from an aunt. Once I get more info I will update you :)

Hi Jackie!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, it's lovely to find out what happened to Augusta. Do you know what their surnames were? Apparently she continued to write to my great grandmother, Cornelius' wife for some time, but we do not have the letters now or an address or surname. It would be lovely to find Zia and her family.
Is Aunty Mogie, Margaret, buried on Achill Island? We were there this summer... I wonder how close we were.
So I understand that Margaret was living with the Leahy family when she died? In the 1911 census, she is staying with her sister Ellen Bridget/Mary Bridget who married Malachi O'Connor in Hampstead, London.
James Corbett, was the headmaster at Liscarroll and Katherine, (child1) had the post office in Liscarroll, did James then go and live in Limerick? We found their graves this summer in Liscarroll.
It was Pauline and her brother that we met this summer and it was really wonderful to meet them. They're lovely people.
I think that Katherine Sharpe, buried in Kilbrin is Daniel's mother. Do you think this is right?
Can you throw any light on who the O'Connell's of Cahirciveen were and how they fit in? Someone kindly supplied this information, which you can see on the post you have replied to. It seems Daniel went to Australia, but I'm not sure who his sister Annie is as I don't have a sibling named Annie at the moment...:
"missing friend Daniel Sharpe of Liscarroll posted on 4th March 1926 in the Catholic Press (Sydney,NSW: sought by nephews and nieces of his sister Annie and contact to his niece Annie O'Connell of West Main St.,Cahirciveen,Co.Kerry"
Adventus remains very elusive, for now!
Many thanks for your kind help & best wishes,
Karen
