My greatgrandparents are Richard Cummings b.1827,( father John) and Bridget Buckley b. 1825, (father might be Timothy). They may have lived in Kilfearagh Parish, maybe Kilkee, and emigrated in 1849 to U.S. They settled in Floyd County, Iowa. Looking for more information about Cummings and Buckley families .

  • Dear Kathleen

I have just answered your previous query. Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Kilfearagh begin in 1869, quite late in comparison with other parishes. As Richard was born before this time, there will be no church record of his baptism, if indeed he was born here. You may wish to search the sites below in case the place of birth is different:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

Again, consider the Tithes and Griffith's Valuation for the next generation who may have held land:

    Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp

    Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

The local studies library website in Co. Clare is also a must-see for those with Clare ancestors:

Best of luck with your search

  • Dear Clare

Many sources incorrectly give the starting date of the microfilmed registers for Kilkee as the starting date of the surviving registers.  There is an older volume in the parish which has never been microfilmed or digitised.

According to GO MS 641 (1943):

"The Baptismal Register is in four volumes viz. 1836/68, 1869/95, 1895/1925
and 1925 to date. It begins in 1836 for the united parishes of Kilfearagh and
Killard. When the parishes were severed in 1854 the Baptisms for
Kilfearagh only were entered in these volumes.
The Marriage Register is in three volumes viz. 1836/90, 1891/1911 and 1911
to date. From 1854 it contains only the Marriages for the parish of
    Kilfearagh."

    Best wishes
