Your family lived in Gortnabinna townland Kilnamartery civil parish in 1901. The surname was spelled Hallisy. There were only two children living at home--John and Bridget. They were not living in that townland in 1911. Were they still in Ireland? How many children emigrated?

  • Mr. McDonnell,

Thank you for the information... Cornelius Hallisey did have a brother John and sister Bridget... John was born about 1875 and Bridget 1890 ..

I have since traveled back to the states and visited with my mother for more information.. it gets a little difficult to follow... here is more information if you are able to assist in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

My Mom's Father died when she was small... his name was Fred Hallisey (Sealy), and he had a sister Maureen (spelling ?)  Hallisey (Sealy) but the catch is that Hallisey is not my blood ancestrial name...My Grandfather's actual name was Fred Sealy.   Fred was adopted by Cornelius Hallisey and given his name upon Fred's mother and father passing away.  Cornelius was married to ?? Higgins who was the sister of Fred Sealy's mother Mary Higgins. So Mary Higgin's sister married Cornelius Hallisey and they adopted Fred and Maureen upon the death of Fred Sealy Sr. and Mary Higgins.

My Grandfather Fred Sealy born in Alameda California was the son of Fred Sealy and Mary Higgins..

My Greatgrandfather Fred Sealy born in Portland Oregon in September 1883 and was the son of Richard Sealy and Catherine Hurley

My great geatgandfather Richard Sealy was born in Ireland and came to the states around 1870-1883??  He was born Febraury 1836 in Ireland somewhere??  I have his mothers and fathers names but not with me currently..

Fred Sealy was born in Portland Oregon some time around 1883?.  He met and married Catherine Hurley in Massachusetts.

This is most of the information that I have.  I am coming back to Ireland in September and traveling to the Cork area to try and find information.  If you know where I can go in the Cork/Macroom Area for any information that would great.

I went to Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  and found the 1874 church marriage record for Alexander Hallisy and hsi wife surname Cotter. They were married in the Aghinagh RC church.

I then looked for baptismal records for two of the children and found Patrick in 1877 in the Kilnamartyra RC records and Patrick in 1886 in the same church. I assume the other children would be in Kilnamartyra also.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record.
