Charles Checkley married Mary both born about 1782 in Cork went to Fitzroy, Ontario, Canada in 1836 with their children. Charles, Catherine, Doretta, Eliza, Margaret, John, William and there may have been a Mary. My line is Catherine who was born in Mallow in 1820 and married Robert Heggart in Ontario, Canada. I have completed the family line but need Charles wife Marys maiden name. Some of the family belonged to the church of England but Catherine later became a Presbyterian.

Hi Bonnie, There were Checkleys in Mallow in Griffiths valuation 1850s. None in the 1901 census. I will check were they there in the Tithes, 1830 I will also check when Protestant records started for Mallow and get back to you. Best of luck.
God bless and kindest regards.

Hi Bonnie There were four Checkleys in Co Cork in the Tithe's 1825, You will be able to access this at www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie They were in civil parish of Clonmeen near Kanturk and also in Kilbolane in Milford in North Cork. Also one in Mallow. In Griffiths valuation, you can access this at www, askaboutirelandnationalarchives.ie In mallow a George Hanifer rented a property from a Miss Francis Checkley . In st Annes Shandon in Cork City property was rented from Reps of Rachel Checkley. There were no Checkleys in 1901 cwnsus. Most of those parishes are on line at www.rootsireland.ie. or if you want to email the Mallow heritage centre their email is mallowheritagecentre@gmail.com.
Let me know how you get on . Best of luck.

My Catherine Checkley was born in Mallow in 1820 and migrated to Canada about 1850 with her husband Robert Heggart. That is all I know about her.

Bonnie,
My family tree shows a Charles Checkley, my great, great grandfather, born in Cork, Ireland in 1810. He was married to Elizabeth Envoy and they lived in Antrim, Ontario. His mother is shown as Mary Checkley, born in Cork, Ireland in 1781, but no husband is shown and no maiden name. Hope this helps your quest!!

Donie here.
i had aquick check on baptisms in protestant Kilshannig Parish and 4 baptisms of Checklys appear.
Jane 17 March1822
Charles on 19th Aug.. 1824.
Thomas 4th Jan. 1829
Dorothea 4th Jan. 1829
Thomas and Dorothea were obviously twins
Their parents were Thomas and Jane and they lived in the townland of Aldworth in the parish which is about 5-6 miles from Mallow town.
There were families of Heggart in the parish also and they have 4 headstones in Kilshannig cemetery. They were protestants. Some of these emigrated to Australia in the late 1930's
Perhaps the above is of some value in your researck

My wife Shirley and I are visiting Mallow area on June 16 and 17 and would appreciate any assistance finding the farm of my ancestors. We believe that Charles Checkley my great, great grandfather lived near Clonmeen and immigrated to Canada in the 1830’s. We also believe that Mary Checkley, his aunt, was an immigrant with the Peter Robinson Settlement group.
