Hi My Great Grandfather is in the 1911 census living in 52 Davis Street, Mallow Cork,Patrick Donovan, he died in wexford in 1981. He is aged 16, he is living with his aunt and uncle, David Stack and Catherine Stack nee Donovan Ages 72 & 73, i am wondering if anyone knows of Catherine Stacks family the Donovan's, as they are my great grandfathers parents and they do not appear on the census so i assume they had died when my great grandfather was young, are there many grave yards in the mallow area that Patrick Donovans parents could be buried ??
Many Thanks

Hi Gemma,
My name is Anne Marie and I am the Irelandxo parish liaison for Mallow.
First of all the David Stack who you found on the census record (a barber) was baptised on the 29 Februrary 1839 in Mallow, his parents were William Stack and Catherine Connell
According to Guys directory of Mallow David Stack also held lodgers
The address in 1901 was Main Street Mallow Town, they had a daughter Katie living with them Katie was about25 years old according to the 1901 census.
You are correct, Catherine who married David Stack maidenname was Donovan as per the baptism record of their daughter Catherine in 1873 Mallow.
Unfortunately there is no marriage record for David Stack and a Catherine Donovan in Cork.
As the family were Roman Catholic they should be buried at St Anne's cemetery in Mallow town or at St Josephs cemetery depending on when they died. The burial records only go as far as 1920 and I was not able to locate a death record for David or Catherine yet.
No idea if they are related but a John and a Richard Stack are buried at St Mary's
I will do a more extensive search tomorrow in order to find out who the parents of Patrick Donovan were.
Regards
Anne Marie

-Callahan David Stack , born 11 October 1871 Mallow, parents David Stack and Catherine Donovan=
It looks like the family lived in Carrigaline before they came to Mallow before 1871 as their daughter Mary Elizabeth was born there on 23 June 1869.
Baptism Margaret Donovan, 19 March 1843, Carrigaline & Templebridid Cork, parents Daniel Donovan and Anne Ryan.
Unfortunately no siblings of Margaret found

Hello Anne Marie, David Stack & Catherine Donovan are my 2nd great-grandparents. I found the record of their marriage in the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Mary's, Cork City February 5, 1856. A Margaret Donovan was a witness. I also found baptismal records for 8 of their children, in Passage West, Carrigaline & Mallow. I am very interested in you mentioning David Stack's baptism Feb 29, 1839 in Mallow Cork to William Stack & Catherine Connell. I have been unable to find an image of this record. Is there a place I can view it? Could you see if you could find a marriage record for William Stack & Catherine Connell? Are there any possible siblings that David had? I would love to have an image of David Stack's baptism. Do you think William Stack was born in Mallow too? Or Catherine Connell?
Sincerely,
Rose Mary Willis-Cohen

Hi Rosemary.
I have just seen your query today, so apologies for not replying sooner.
I searched for David Stack,s baptism Feb 1839 in Mallow on the new free site www.registersnli.i.e. and could not find it either. I feel its a misprint, and will get back to you about it.
