Hi Terry,
Thank you for getting back to me. Do you have any further information that you can share that will help our volunteers further your research? Most important is a specific place of origin in Cork. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
As Patrick was born in 1875 there will be a civil record of his birth. These are available from the GRO, here is a their website:
Once you have this it will give you a place of origin which will open up more avenues of research to you.
You could also try searching for church records at:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ Church records are currently being uploaded here free of chage. However to date only parts of Cork that have been covered so far are those that fall under the Catholic diocese of COrk and Ross.
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Have you tried looking for the family in the census records? These are available online at: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
I did a search for his father Patrick in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey carried out in Ireland 1848-64. It doesn?t give any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. However it is difficult to know whether the resultsa re relevant or not. One result came back for Shandrum parish which is in North West Cork:
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Cork Past and Present: www.corkpastandpresent.ie
Failte Romhat: www.failteromhat.ie

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

My interest is tracing any living relatives or family tree for Patrick Allen b: 14/1/1875. His parents were Patrick Allen & Mary Begley (married 1862). There is a baptismal record for Patrick in 1875 at St Mary's & St Anne's North Cathedral. The family address at this time was Quary Lane.
Many thanks

I'm looking for information about my great-great-great grandfather, John Allen. The information that I have so far is that he was born around 1805 in Cork Ireland and came to Canada in 1825. His wife is Mary (last name unknown). I am unsure as to whether or not they met and married in Ireland or not. I cannot find any marriage information for them. I'm looking to find any information about John's family in Ireland. Any help would be appreciated.

I am interested in the surname Allen in Ireland, please see the below information and reply if you or someone you know would have interest in participating.
The ALLEN y-DNA Project & The ALLEN Guild of One Name Studies
The Allen DNA Project is partnering with the Allen Guild of One Name Studies in an exciting new Research Endeavor. The Allen DNA Project is a USA based group, but is very interested in expanding our membership to a world-wide audience by actively seeking out Allens from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Mainland Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or anywhere else on the planet. Additionally, any spelling variation of the Allen surname is welcome: Allan, Allyn, Allin, etc.
To this point, FREE yDNA 12 marker tests will be made available to any males carrying the Allen surname and residing outside the United States who are willing to join the project and participate in the testing. This involves no blood or needles, only a cotton swab rubbed on the inner cheek.
The only requirement for a free yDNA test is a known Allen/Allan (any spelling) lineage to at least the participant’s Great Grandfather Allen/Allan (any spelling) in any country. Additionally, The Allen DNA Project is setting aside a specific Sub-group within the Project with a full commitment of assistance from Allen Project Co-Administrator Dr. Eric Allen who will be overseeing this specific International Sub-group.
