I am trying to research my family in Ireland---I have records that show Bridget Butler married Henry Taylor ( born in England and a private in the 1st Royals ) in County Offaly, Birr 22 Aug 1848. They had 3 daughters born in Ireland ( Rebecca, Mary Jane and Susanna ) before moving back to Sheffiled England. They were Roman Catholic. I can't find anything on the mother, Bridget or the daughter Susanna. Rebecca was baptized in the parish of St. Mary's or St. John's County Limerick. It just states "barracks" as the residence. Any information, if possible, would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Kathryn

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Likely Bridget was from the Birr area since the marriage occurred there. However, RC records for Birr parish start in 1838 (earlier records were likely lost) so if she was from Birr no record is available. Below is the record for Susanna (Susan).

Wow--that was fast--thank you so much. The family seems to have moved around a bit as the eldest daughter Rebecca was born in Limerick and their second daughter Mary Jane who is my 2nd great grand mother is stated as born in County Cork--although I can't find any record of her either. The Taylor's were staunch Catholics in Sheffield England where the father Henry returned with his family and left the regiment. Later, Mary Jane married a Protestant which was not well received! She and her husband and 10 children came to Canada in the early 1900's.
