Seeking family history information on John Creedon, born 1813, convicted in Cork Assizes on 27 January 1832 to transportation to New South Wales for 7 years for stealing sugar. Death record shows that his parents were Bartholomew and Margaret Creedon. John was Roman Catholic and single at that time. His occupation was Blacksmith.

A John Daly was convicted at the same time and place for the same offence, so is likely to have been an accomplice and friend of John Creedon.

  • Hi Tony

The only birth/baptism record for John Creedon 1813 in Cork on www.rootsireland.ie/ is 1817 in Cork. The mother is Margaret but the father's name was not Bartholomew.

It costs to view the full record but it will have the parish and HOPEFULLY the father's name.

    There are 47 John Daly birth/baptism records from Cork 1813 + - 5 years!

There are 45 Creedons in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 (free online) most in Cork. There is a Jeremiah but no Bartholomews.

In Griffiths Valuation (1848-64) free online there are 312 Creedons with 292 in Cork but no Bartholomew so it seems the name was not handed on through the generations to give us a clue.

There earliest Bartholomew Creedan baptisms in Cork on rootsireland 1803, 1809, 1810 & 1816.

I bit the bullet and went through all the parishes of thses 4 records and found 2 were from Macaroon RC 1 from Donoughmore RC and 1 from Clondrohid RC.

  • Many thanks for all the work you have done Col.

Unfortunately, I cannot see how any of the information you have unearthed points to a Bartholomew Creedon who could be the father of a son, John, born around 1813.

    So no luck so far.

    Regards

  • I had another poke around.

There are 7 John Creedan / Creedon baptism records 1812-1814 all in Cork but none has a father Bartholomew or mother Margaret

    http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y

However, all 4 are registered in the Clondrohid parish as was the 1816 Bartholomew Creedan mentioned in previous post.

I could not find any children born to Bartholomew and Margaret.

I checked the John Daly births/baptisms for 1813 + - 1 in Cork as he was also 19 in 1832 but there were none from Clondrohid.

There are still 82 Creedons in Cork in the Irish phone book but no Bartholomews; same in 1911 and 1901 census 600+ including some in Clondrohid but no Bartholomews.

It's a long-shot but there is a Clondrohid in the Find My Parish list which welcomes enquiries so perhaps you'll get some assistance there.

  • Thank you Col.

I will try posting a message on the Clondrohid page.
