I have been researching my Irish family for a while and have come to a dead end due to the lack of records. My great, great grandfather Michael John Daly was born in 1842. He joined the Royal Navy in Casteltownshend and after his Naval career was a Coastguard in Cornwall.

His father was Eugene Daly who I think was born in 1817. I do not know Michael's mother's name or if he had any siblings. I know that Eugene was a Joiner. (I got Eugene's name and occupation form Michael's marriage certificate)

I would love to find out more about Eugene and the rest of the family. If anyone knows of any Dalys in and around Castletownshend who may know any information or if anyone knows where Eugene might be buried I'd be very grateful.

    The only files I could find relating to those dates will be uploaded. The fact that he enlisted in Castletownshed is understandable becaue that is the closest port to Skibbereen & only five miles away. To verify if we have the correct people I would like the names of Michael Joh's children in order of birth. The traditional naming pattern of the time may enable us to determine if these are the correct ones

    Michael John's children were all born in England. I'm not sure if that matters for what you're looking at. He married Mary Elizabeth Moss in 1871 in Plymouth, Devon.
    I have a birth date for Michael of 17th May 1842. I did wonder if he had siblings called Eugene (1837) and Catherine (1843) as I found some information pointing to that.

    The children are as follows: Edwin Edgington 1872; Stephen Charles J 1873; Ellen (Nellie) 1875; Albert George 1877; Lily 1879? Frederick William 1879; Elizabeth 1882; Ernest Sydney 1884; Sydney 1885; Grace 1887; Agnes Grace 1888; Winifred 1893

    No luck in finding Michael John's birth. The only Catherine (1843) & Eugene (1837) with the same parents are the following. Catherine, baptised 5 Sep 1837, South Parish, Cork City to Eugene Daly & Catherine Barrett, Eugene baptised 12 Nov 1843, South Parish, Cork City to the same parents. I really cannot conceive that they are siblings of Michael John. If he was born in Cork City the enlistment area would be Cobh (Queenstown) which is about 60 miles from Castlehaven. Sorry I could not help.
