I think that my gr grandfather Jeremiah Collins may have been born in Goleen, Schull, Cork in 1860 to Daniel Collins and Mary Coughlin. If this is the correct Daniel and Mary, I discovered that they had other children, Mary, Margaret, Kate and Bridget whom I know nothing about. I need to know if anyone knows what became of this family, or any of its members. Did they emigrate, or stay in Ireland? My Jeremiah and his parents Daniel and Mary, ended up in Sunbury, Middlesex, England.
Can anyone help with this?
Any information about any of these people would be very helpful, and would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Susan Collins

Dear Susan: Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board. Welcome to the site! You might consider checking the following resources for further information on the family that may have remained through the 1901 & 1911 Censuses at the National Archives:
http://Census.nationalarchives.ie
Another resource are the civil and church records (for Cork (parts), Kerry & Dublin) at the Irish genealogy website. They are at the link below:
You might also consider creating a profile under the XO Chronicles tab at the top of the page for any one of your ancestors with whatever information you have. These profiles are updated weekly and they are a great resource for all of our members who may be looking for the same person, family or may have information and be able to share and collaborate with you. The link for this is at the top of the page at XO Chronicles. You can click on the People link and start to add ancestors.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know. You can email me directly at: jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.
All the best of luck with your research!
Kind regards,
Jane.

Hi Susan
The only information I can find at tghe moment is as follows: Daniel Collins and Mary Coughlan were married on 22 Feb 1852. their first child was baptised & Christened Mary on 2 Jan 1853. Sponsors were Denis Donovan & Fanny Kelly. the second chiled was baptised & Christened Kate on 30 Apr 1854. Sponsors: Loudy Kitty & Julia Collins. Third child was baptised & Christened Margaret on 4 Aug 1856. Sponsors: Cornelius Mahony & Margaret Coughlan. Fourth Child was baptised & Christened Bridget on 8 Aug 1858. Sponsors: Dan Regan & Caty Borocan. The entry on the parish register for this child was incorrectly transcribed in irishgenealogy.ie as July but on examination of original entry it shows as 8th Aug. Last child baptised and christened Jeremiah 4 march 1860. Sponsors: Peter Sheehan & Bridget Collins. It appears from the register as though the family lived and the last of the children were born at Carrigacurriheen Goleen. I will continue to look and get back to you if I find anything else.

thank you very much to the person who replied to me from Abbeystrowry, and also for being willing to look these thase dates up.
I should have mentioned in my post that I do already have the baptism dates for these children (thank you again, though for going to the trouble of looking them up). What I need to find out but have not been able to yet, is find out what happened to this family. In order to dscover whether the Jeremiah Collins in this family is my great grandfather, I need to find out whether they stayed in Ireland or whether they left and if so to where.
My great grandfther Jeremiah Collins and his parents, Daniel and Mary ended up in Sunbury, Middlesex, England, by, at the very latest 1881, but possibly as early as 1865. If this Collins family from Goleen are my ancetors, I do not know whether the other children also went to England with Jeremiah and his parentts, or stayed behin in Goleen or went elsewhere.
I do not know what to do to trace the path of this family with any certainty. Or I should say that I have not found them listed nicely together in a Census somewhere, and have not been able to determine whether the marriage of one Bridget Collins or a Kate Collins in one place or another, or a death is the Bridget or Kate from this family. The names are not unusual.
