I have several Irish ancestors I am researching.
One pair we have are Patrick Donovan and Mary Powell.
I have spoken with a granddaughter of Patrick and Mary. She tells me Patrick came from Bantry, and Mary from Macroom. I have been unable to document either location.
I have death certificates for both -
Patrick's states he was born in Ireland 17th of March 1871 to Daniel Donovan and Catherine Donovan. (I am not sure if Donovan was truely her maiden name or if her married name was given because the informant didn't know her maiden name.)
Mary's states she was born 1st if April 1872 in Ireland to John Powell and Bridget O'Conell
In different records I have seen different information on what year Patrick was born, ranging from 1870-74. He immigrated to the US in 1890 or 1891 (his death certificate indicates 1886 arrival). I have the final papers portion of his naturalization record (but have not found the application portion yet). These indicate he'd been living in the US 8 years, and in Illinois for 3 years when his naturalization was completed in March 1901.

They were married in Will County Illinois in April of 1900 and had 6 children between 1903 and 1913. I have their marriage certificate - sadly all of the lines asking for parent information are blank. The marriage licence is signed by "a catholic priest"

According to census records, Mary immigrated to the US around 1889. Her birth year also moves around a bit depending on what record.

Hi Missy
There is a baptism record of Patrick Donovan with parents Daniel Donovan & Catherine Connell 15 Feb 1865. Parish is LISGOLD Cork R C.
You might like to have a look on www.irishgenealogy.ie/ which is free. There are a couple of Patrick Donovan baptisms from Bantry - 1 in 1860 & 2 in 1863.
Mary's baptism is on rootsireland 1 Apr 1872 parents John Powell & Bridget Connell.

Thanks - I've looked on www.irishgenealogy.ie/ before - there are a couple that could be my Patrick - but since I am missing his mother's maiden name and am not yet familiar with place references, I'm not sure which one if any are him. I think the three you reference might be a bit too early, but I will take a look and see. So far the most promising ones to me: there is one from RATHBARRY AND ARDFIELD for a baptism of a Patrick Donovan on 22 March 1871 with parents being Daniel Donovan and Catherine McKennedy. This one has possibilities because the dates and names match up. The sponsors on here include a Daniel O'Leary - a Margaret O'Leary was a witness on their marriage document, so I'd have to see if there is any connection there or not.
I will check out the record for Mary in the morning.
