Searching for vital records/immigration of William Donald Flynn and Katherine Mary Sullivan probably from SW Cork. They would have immigrated before the birth on their daughter in Feb 1852 in New York state. We don't know if they married in Ireland or New York. Williams birth recorded as 1 Aug 1808, Katherines 4 Jun 1825 in Cork??? Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Dear Wayne,
Here are some extractions from New Hampshire and US Census Records , these are from a tree in Ancestry. They are third hand, so always take such info" with a grain of salt", as errors are very common.
I found a William D Flynn of the exact birthdate on an index card and an original U.S. Circuit Court Naturalization Record showing a William D. Flynn of Portsmouth, NH receiving his Citizenship on 3 March, 1858. , Witnesses are often important, as they may be kin, they are James Buckley, and Michael Cunningham.
Further documents show he was born at Slagore or Slagare, County Waterford, Ireland on 1 Aug, 1808.Further emigration records state arrival in the US on 7 May, 1848.
I checked military muster rolls for NH and found none with his exact name, although no less than five Michael Flynn are found in NH Civil War muster rolls. He was likely considered too old for service.
Again these are from primary sources, and also a tree on Ancestry.com, so it is very advised to confirm by cross referencing all documents and tree entries, as errors are as common as facts I've found. I hope this will be helpful.Regards,

Thanks all for replies
I have seen the N.H. citizenship record for 1958 but what is troubling is they are in Beloit Wisconsin in the 1855 state census. The obituary for William states he was from Cork the only reference to a specific place that we have found in Ireland. Katherine also has a reference to Cork?? My dna analysis also indicates an origin of Cork. We have visited their graves in Muscoda, Grant, Wisconsin.
Thanks again for your replies.

An example of how my Irish Great grandparents moved, essentially to go where there was work. These have all been cross verified :Patrick C. McFadden from Donegal arrives in Philadelphia in 1849, leaves for Japan with the US Navy In 1852, returns to Kittery, Maine In 1856. New York City in 1857, marries Margaret. 1858, Temperanceville, PA ( Pittsburg, PA) 1858, later in West Providence, RI. 1860: New York City ( again ) 1867-68: Groton, CT, then Norwich, CT. 1871: Returns to New York City. 1874: Moves family to Canton, IL. Dies there in 1901.
You might check church records for all cities where they may have lived. Note also, most traveled to where there was passage to their intended destination. The above Patrick from Donegal traveled from Derry to Liverpool, England, thence to Philadelphia.
Best Wishes!Mac

Hi Wayne,
I may have more positive news for you later today when I have had more time to verify the location of the area of baptism of those I have found that fit the profile and dates you had for Catherine & William. You will notice the spelling of Catherine I use which is quite deliberate was there was no K used in the Irish language at the time Catherine was born and baptised. The K was probably added in later adult life or when she arrived in the US.
Could you please let me know the source of the dates of birth you gave for them as they would appear to be quite accurate given the dates I have for baptism which usually was within two to three days of birth but sometimes om the day of birth depending on the location of the place of birth in relation to the location of the Parish church and the availability of a clergyman. On Church records generally, only the first name was given with subsequent names added later just as a tribute possibly to brothers and sisters or parents of the parents or the sponsors .
I will do my best to get back to you later today.

Hi Frank
We did get the birth dates from family members and the dates are confirmed on their tombstones which we have personally viewed. The stones were erectected by their daughter. Intersting re the C vs K as my great aunt insisted that her name was spelled with the K.
Thanks for all your efforts.

Ok, thanks Wayne.
Will get back to you later today with the names and dates and addresses I have found for William & Catherine. It is quite positive that the vast majority of Katherine's born in Ireland in the 19th century were christened and recorded as Catherine as the Irish language did not have a "K". Many people of that name who immigrated changed it to K in order to fit in better in other English speaking and written language.

Hi again Wayne,
forgot that I had printed out the relevant information for you. I am very confident that this information is about the correct ones you seek as I have approached it from several different directions and matched all results to your information.and this is the only couple that closely match your information. I could not however find a marriage for them in any register either Civil or Religious.
Catherine Sullivan of James Sullivan & Julia Creedon. Baptised on 06 June 1825 in Iveleary Parish Church, Inchigeela Diocese of Cork & Ross
Sponsors: James Moynihan & Ellen Tuomy
Home address

Inchhigeela

William Flynn of Michael Flynn & Mary Kelleher. Baptised 15 May 1808 in Cloyne Parish Church, Cloyne Diocese Co. Cork
Sponsors:Thomas Quinlan & Ellen Duggin
Home address
Ballygeaney
Cloyne Co.Cork
Inchigeella is in West Cork. and Cloyne is in East Cork but distance between is not that big and city of Cork would be fairly cerntral between them so they may have met up there if they both worked there.
I can get you copies of documents when I have acces to the website again.
Hope you agree with my reasons and my confidence as they are the only ones that meet all the criteria you gave me.
Will keep an eye open for any other data I may come across and pass it to you. Please let me know what you think of above.

Hi Frank
Thank you for the information. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner - cataract surgery.
The information conflicts with information from a family researcher BUT I believe his information is very suspect as there is no documentation and he has William Flynns father as being 13 years old at the time of his birth??
Anything further that you can find will be very helpful. I will follow up on the information you provided.
Thanks again.
