Looking for any information on Hartnett or Muese families in County Cork. My husband's 3rd great grandfather Bartholomew Hartnett was born abt 1802 in County Cork. There is some question about his name. Per our family records his name was Henry Charles Hartnett, but per other family records and census reports he went by Bartholomew or Bart. I'm looking for information on any of the above names. "Bart" married Elizabeth Muese (spelling may be wrong) probably in late 1820s in Ireland. Their first child Helen was born Feb 1831 Ireland. By Apr 1833 Bart, Elizabeth and Helen were living in Quebec, Quebec, Canada where son Charles Henry Hartnett was born. Charles' Catholic baptism record show parents as Bart Hartnett and Elizabeth Muese. There was also a Thomas Hartnett & family living in Quebec at the time, but I have not been able to make a connection. By 1835 Bart and family was living in Greenwich, Washington County, New York where their 2nd daughter Eliza was born. There were a few other Hartnett's in a neighboring county, but again not able to make a connection. While living in Greenwich, Bart and Elizabeth had 7 more children: Mary Jane 1836, Hannah/Anna 1839, Joseph 1842-1846, Bartley 1844-1846, Sarah J 1844-1846, Louisa 1848 and Joseph Bartholomew 1850. In 1850, Bart & family were living in Greenwich, by 1855 they were living in Grant County, Wisconsin. Two daughters Helen and Eliza remained in Washington County, NY where they married Richard Cubit and William Dawley, respectively. At the time Bart moved his family to Wisconsin, there were a few other Hartnett families in the state. Again, no connection has been made between any of the families. Bart died in Ellenboro, Grant, Wisconsin in Nov 1862. His wife Elizabeth Muese was born abt 1810 in England and died between 1877-1880 in Grant County, Wisconsin.

My husband descends from Bart's eldest son Charles Henry Hartnett who moved to Holten, Jackson county, Kansas between 1855-1858. Charles was in the 1855 Grant Co., Wisconsin census and married Mary Jane Lutz March 1858 in Holten, Kansas. Since the Lutz family was living in Grant county, Wisconsin in 1855, it is believed Charles and Mary Jane met in Wisconsin and then he moved with the family to Kansas. Charles and Mary Jane had 10 children: John Bartholomew 1859, Mary Ellen 1860, Margaruite Elizabeth 1863, Charles Henry Jr 1865, William Dowley 1867, James Bradford 1869, Grace Rowena 1872, Birdie Mae 1875, Andrew Wilson 1877 and Daisy Belle 1880. Charles died in 1893 Stafford, Stafford county, Kansas. Mary Jane Lutz Hartnett was born 1837 Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania and died 1926 Stafford, Stafford county, Kansas.

Bart and Elizabeth's other children:

Helen married Richard Cubit, no children, died 1915 Greenwich, Washington, NY;

Eliza married William H Dawley, children Bartholomew b 1856, Charles P b 1860 and Annie L 1862-1866. Eliza died 1872 Easton, Washington, NY;

Mary Jane married Richard Mott 1858 in Grant county, Wisconsin, children Joseph Bartholomew 1860-1883, Elizabeth 1862-1899, Frank B b 1867, Addison 1870-1880, Ida Mae b 1878; Mary Jane died 1896 Knox county, Nebraska;

Hannah/Anna, no information after the 1860 census, living with parents in Harrison, Grant county, Wisconsin;

Louisa, no information after the 1860 census, living with parents in Harrison, Grant county, Wisconsin;

Joseph Bartholomew married Mary Elizabeth Betts 1872 in Grant county, Wisonsin, children Harry Louis b 1873, Ella Elizabeth b 1875, Ina May b 1882, Joseph Earl 1892-1894, Lee Glenn b 1895; Joseph died 1908 Harrison, Grant county, Wisconsin, Mary Betts b 1854 Trumbull county, Ohio, died 1925 Harrison, Grant county, Wisconsin.

As far as I know all of "Bart's" children remained Catholic except my husbands branch of the family. It appears that when Charles moved to Kansas be dropped the Catholic religion and most of the Kansas branch of the family became Presbyterian. A large number of Charles Henry and Mary Jane Hartnett's descendants still live in Kansas and Joseph Bartholomew and Mary Elizabeth Hartnett still have many descendants living in Wisconsin. Quite a few of the direct male descendants of Bartholomew Hartnett, whether they descended from Charles Henry or Joseph Bartholomew, have the same facial features; oval face, high forehead, strong brow and a twinkle in the eye. As a neighbor said of my husband "he sparkles". This strong family resemblance remains, even after 4 generations.

My husband has tested with 23andMe and his results are also on GEDMatch. He is going to test again with FTDNA. His Hartnett Y haplogroup is R1b1b2a1a2f* per 23andMe. He also has a public family tree on Ancestry.com. Search for "Bartholomew Hartnett, Ireland, 1802" and select Charles Henry Hartnett (1834-1893) family tree. There are also family photos of John Bartholomew Hartnett and his children (my husbands line) and others.

Appreciate any help in discovering my husbands ancestors in Ireland and always enjoy meeting new "cousins".
