  • Hi

We may be searching in the same area. I have been trying to trace the marriage of George Trueman who has connections with Clutton, in Somerset.( See my message "Trueman" on this site.)

I believe Mary? Ellen Cotter, married 20 June !860 Parish / District COBH,  Co Cork.

    The Clutton connection seems strong.

Family folklore says the George Truemans wife Mary/Ellen died at, or shortly after childbirth.

The child Mary Ann Trueman, my GG grandmother was born 21 March 1861.

Is it possible that Mary Ellen Cotter married in her "Home / Family" parish?

  • I am researching the Cotters of Cobh and saw your post.  It looks like you were referring to the following marriage record.

I have an Ellen Cotter baptized 1834 to William Cotter & Hanora Maher. Baptism sponsors Charles Neil & Catherine Guillee.  I believe she was the godmother of her neice Hanorah May Weber (born London 1855, baptized Cobh 1858).

  • Hi - 5 years late to the conversation, but I have just found this message whilst searching for James Cotter, resident in the 1841 census with George & Mary Mulcock in Devizes, Wiltshire.  I have been trying to establish his connection to the Mulcocks, hoping that it will help with sorting out which George Mulcock married which Mary in Devizes in 1815.  Any further information will be gratefully received.

    Regards

  • Hi Debs , Sarah a Mulcock was born abt 1819, and married John Cotter in Bridgwater,Somerset in 1838 (march q 10-497 in freebmd)   James Cotter was the firstborn abt 1839 in Devizes wiltshire. There were 9 children.John and Sarah were on different pages in the 1841 census, unless you use Freecen transcription.  I hope this helps.  wyattsl

  • Hi Sue,

Just a quick line to say that I have searched all of Cork County (Diocese of Cork & Ross and also Cloyne from 1800 to 1820 for a John Cotter with father James in a suitable timeframe and only came up with two possibilities. They are,

John of James Cotter & Ellen Murphy in Cork South (which would be Cork City) baptised 29 Mar. 1812. Sponsors: William Kenific & Mary Tuomy (probably mis spelt Twomey)

John of James Cotter & Catherine Sullivan in Schull East 18th June1812. Sponsors: Daniel Keeffe & Peg Donovan.

I would be happy to try to follow up on either one of these people if you believe that they are the person you are seeking. Hope this is of use to you.

open.  There is a archives in Monaghan town too.

    Thank you for replying

  • Hi Sheila,

I believe you answered the wrong message board/notice as this notice refers to the Cotter family and not any of Cotnam, McKaye, Gilroy or County Monaghan.

I have no idea on that. I answered the message of Sue Hamer of South Wales in the U.K. and got a reply from you. I responded then and now on the query page of Sue Hamer and was surprised at getting a reply from you. Do you have a query on IrelandXO ?.
