I'm looking for a Richard Kelly and Ellen or Catherine Dempsey. I can not find any records of birth or marriage. I know they had atleast one child, Bridget born 1838 or 1840. They arrived in Boston, Massachusetts when Bridget was about 15 years old. My great-grandmother told me that Bridget was born in Cork, Ireland. She also thinks that a William John or John William Dempsey was the Uncle of Bridget. Bridget lived and died in Haverhill. Essex, Massachusetts. That's all my great-grandmother remembers. I'm hitting a brick wall and don't know how to search further. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi
Thank you for your message.
Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.
Have you tried checking The Boston Pilot to look for further information regarding the family? From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a ?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 records is available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad that appeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/
If you haven't already - You could try checking for the family in the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/
Some sites that may be of use to you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

Many o the Irish arrived in the states, but that was not the end of their journey.
Check the New Brunswick archives in Canada.I believe she settled there with land.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
If you look at the familysearch.org records for MA vitals you will find Bridget Kelly Dempsey died in 1874 in Haverhill, MA. She was the daughter of Richard and Ellen Kelly.
Bridget Kelly married a William Dempsey(recorded as Demy) in Haverhill, MA on 9 NOV 1859. William Dempsey's parents were recorded as William and Margaret. I found 2 children Betsey and Mary Dempsey born in Haverhill, William Dempsey and Bridget Kelly were listed as parents.
Hope this helps.
